Pakistan thought it was organizing a summit. The whole setup - live music, food, journalists assigned to just vlog about the arrangements, a hashtag, was more like a PR exercise to elevate oneself, esp after it bombed 400+ civilians in a Kabul hospital, hoping the world forgets.

In any deal, the broker cannot make himself the headline. It is not a house party, a college reunioun. A non-serious actor like Pakistan was over the moon, selling this as a victory for itself, even before the negotiations started. It is understandable from their viewpoint. A failed state, a country running on loans, a reputation of a terror funding state(which they richly deserve), a country which since the start of the war has entered an economic meltdown, where in their general populace is struggling for day to day basic necessities. So the same country getting to host such a World changing event, they could not be happier, but then again, a broker does not become an equal at the table of the big players, he does not become the main character. In my opinion, Oman would have been a better country to host the talks or Norway(which has a rich history of being a serious mediator). These are serious states, who are prosperous and they have no inferiority complex when it comes to negotiating between the warring sides and hence zero over the top celebrations. They would have done it, away from the glare of the news media and stuck to the subject, rather than the optics. The entire World wants this war to get over, but please let a serious country be the mediator. Lastly, as one of India's strongest allies, UAE said, that any deal cannot be conclusive, without the Emiratis being a part of it and I agree with that strongly. The Iranian regime has attacked UAE the most in this war, even more than Israel. UAE,the role model Muslim Nation, a regional superpower, a country of peace, prosperity, multiculturalism, a developed aspirational country, which only means business, home to people of 200 Nationalities,infrastructure eclipsing even some of the most advanced western countries,impeccable law and order, one of the safest countries on the planet for women, zero tolerance for terrorism, has to be on board for end to this War.

Talks failed but history will remember the lengths Pakistan went to, to get it settled peacefully. We have punched miles above our weight & gave the world a glimmer of hope against all odds. We were the only avenue that gave hope to millions & millions of mothers & children who dreaded destruction. Proud of our diplomats. We know it’s a good news for a specific faction of anarchists in Pakistan but then again, until they get hold of affairs, let’s cherish what we did in the last two weeks for peace.
