@rhyswithispoon @IndoAudit14 @SumoZeki When he got promoted everyone got such heartburn over it, as if he needed to be as good as uncle to be worthy of the rope. But if he winds up being more Kakuryu / Wakanohana III (a solid 2nd/3rd Yok), would that be so bad? I think he's got ~5 yusho in him no sweat.

As of now, discounting the only modern Yokozuna who never won a championship post-promotion (Wakanohana III), only three men have taken longer than Hoshoryu to claim their first title with the rope: Kakuryu (9 basho), and Kashiwado and Asashio III (both 12 basho).

@rhyswithispoon @IndoAudit14 @SumoZeki I think Hosh likely gets a significant push in people's memories due to his dominance over Onosato. Too good to be an Ozeki, not quite the dominance of a Yokozuna is a better position to be in than the people who flamed out after putting together a rope run.

@rhyswithispoon @SumoZeki I dont know what the factors he always lost 3 times since only 1 from 7 basho he was in injured conditions. He already raised his weight and had Yok training type. I agree with you that most likely he will scored the most jun yusho.

@IndoAudit14 @SumoZeki I think 10 is too much because he can't figure out how to not give lower rankers easy wins 3 times a basho. Should be beating everyone's ass (other than Aonishiki who is the only one to have actually figured him out). Wouldnt be shocked if he retired with the most jun yusho ever.

Kirishima does indeed have 33 wins over three basho now, but keep in mind the rule of thumb is that all three basho should be sekiwake or komusubi. He was M2 at the beginning of this run. No promotion rule is set in stone in sumo - but the bigwigs would take a hard look. He already lost his ōzeki status once, and we already have two ōzeki. A strong finish with a yūshō might move them though #harubasho2026
