Indonesia matters, big time, to New Zealand. I was glad to meet with President @jokowi in Melbourne today to reaffirm that truth. We discussed our strategic partnership, trade, and our people to people connections. I appreciated President Widodo’s wisdom on the world. I also spoke with him about the need for an urgent release of New Zealand’s Phillip Mehrtens held hostage in Papua.

The Deputy Prime Minister was delighted to welcome Indonesian Vice President @Kiyai_MarufAmin to 🇳🇿 today. 🇮🇩 is a key Indo-Pacific partner, with plenty of opportunity to grow our exports and halal trade. We look forward to partnership with 🇮🇩’s incoming administration. 🇳🇿🤝🇮🇩

Today I met Indonesian Vice-President Amin to discuss our countries’ ties. I congratulated Indonesia on the world’s largest single day election. I look forward to working with the incoming administration. We also discussed our shared concern for the NZ citizen held hostage in Papua.

The Foreign Minister was pleased to re-connect with his Indonesian counterpart, Retno Marsudi. They discussed: -how to further strengthen the 🇮🇩 / 🇳🇿 comprehensive partnership; -upcoming high-level visits; and -joint efforts to secure the safe release of Phillip Mehrtens.

The Indonesian General Election Commission (KPU) has confirmed that the date for the Indonesian General Election in New Zealand will be on February 10th, 2024. Voting Booths (TPS) will open in Auckland and Wellington. There are also voters that will cast their vote via post.
