As the EU sought to wean itself off Russian fuel, the U.S. has become the supplier of over 60% of its LNG. However, the EU has reduced gas consumption by about a fifth since 2021, and a further 25% drop is expected by 2030. via @Breakingviews hubs.li/Q0408yVV0

Consumer organisations have consistently advocated against heating with hydrogen. Why? Because they understand that it would be highly inefficient, costly and impracticable. My now dated meta-review has come to the same conclusion back in 2024. sciencedirect.com/science/articl…

When China was at a similar GDP per capita to India today, coal was far cheaper than solar. Now India is scaling power, transport and industry when electrotech is already cheap, leading to lower coal demand, renewable-led electricity growth and oil demand under pressure from EVs

For 50 years, global warming had a very consistent trend (+0.19 °C/decade) with a boring, predictable range of natural variations around it. During the last three years, we've broken out above that range, suggesting the pace of change has quickened.

Amazing wind tech math: Ireland is decommissioning its oldest wind farm to make way for new tech, and the efficiency leap is staggering: Just ONE of the new turbines will generate more power than the ENTIRE 21-turbine farm it replaces combined reneweconomy.com.au/irelands-oldes…

$QS QuantumScape vs. DONUT Labs: Using Reference Tables to Expose the Gap Between Leader and Scam This post is about credibility and verification. Extraordinary solid state battery claims require extraordinary evidence. In the solid state battery space, credibility is established through published data, repeatable testing, third party validation, transparent timelines, and physical demonstration. QuantumScape has spent 15 years developing an anode free solid state battery architecture. The company has repeatedly published detailed technical disclosures covering layer counts, energy density, cycle life, fast charge performance, pressure requirements, and separator design. Results have been validated through third party testing and ongoing collaboration with global automotive OEMs. Volkswagen remains a strategic partner and investor. QuantumScape has also disclosed two additional OEM relationships, one of which is now effectively identified as Honda, with another still unnamed. Working cells have been shown publicly, samples have been delivered to OEMs, and vehicle level integration has been demonstrated. Recently, attention has shifted to a private company called DONUT Labs following claims of a revolutionary solid state battery. These claims arrived without supporting technical disclosures. There are no published test protocols, no cycle life data, no peer reviewed research, no patent filings, and no independent validation. Public demonstrations have consisted of rendered or 3D printed models rather than functioning cells. Presented timelines imply testing durations that violate basic physical constraints. A broader credibility concern arises from narrative instability. Earlier in the year, the same leadership publicly claimed to possess the only “true AI.” That claim disappeared without evidence or follow through. The shift to solid state battery claims followed the same pattern, featuring expansive statements unsupported by data. In advanced materials science, this pattern signals a lack of technical grounding. I worked with Claude to assemble a clear comparison table that focuses on disclosed facts, timelines, and validation. The table format allows direct inspection of claims without unnecessary exposition. QuantumScape’s disclosures align with known development timelines for next generation battery technologies. Its manufacturing roadmap has been described in detail, including process iterations, throughput improvements, equipment partners, and cost structure assumptions. Risks are disclosed openly in public filings. Progress is reported incrementally. Claims become breakthroughs through verification, replication, and time. Transformative promises require data, validation, and transparency. Skepticism follows directly from the absence of these elements. The tables below speak for themselves. Readers can review the evidence directly and reach their own conclusions. My conclusion is straightforward: QuantumScape is operating as a legitimate solid state battery company grounded in real science and disclosed progress. DONUT Labs has not met the minimum threshold of technical credibility required to be taken seriously in this field.

INDONESIAN GOV'T TO SIGNIFICANTLY CUT NICKEL PRODUCTION: WHAT ARE THE IMPLICATIONS? Surprise, surprise. Kementerian ESDM (Energy and Resource Minerals Ministry) dropped the bomb that they will cut Indonesia nickel production for 2026 to 250 Mt. This might be a suprise to many people, since the gov't has been pushing "downstreaming" as one of the main focus of Indonesia. This started in 2020, where nickel ore exports were banned. Local and foreign entitites were forced to build smelters to process these ores on Indonesian soil. The implication? Nickel exports soared 10 fold to $30 billion in 2022 compared to 2013, making Indonesia essentially the price maker of nickel, controlling about 60% of the global nickel supply. This did not come without drawbacks. Such massive expansion at an extremely rapid rate destroyed nickel price. To put into context, there were only 13 nickel smelters in 2017. Now, it's freaking 77! Nickel had its cycle during COVID, soaring from $10k/tonne to the famous 2022 short squeeze, reaching a whopping $100k/tonne. Since then, nickel price keeps dropping, and has been depressed below $15k/tonne for almost two years now. Now that the government is cutting the national nickel production to just only 250 Mt compared to 379 Mt in 2025, what could be the implications?

I think people haven't fully grasped how dominant China is these days. The technological progress they've made (tech, drugs, renewables) makes them impossible to ignore. A well led America could have coordinated a challenge to this, but instead we get this clown show. Only natural that every country has to carve out a deal with them.

Until 2006, all of South Australia's 🇦🇺 electricity⚡️ came from coal and gas. Things have changed dramatically since then. Today, more than two-thirds come from solar and wind ☀️ Coal is already gone. A sign of things to come for other power sectors.

I can now share 2 slides with the information on the type of battery & materials used in the new Donut Lab battery. It is an anode-less #sodium solid-state battery with a solid electrolyte made of Na, Zr, Si, P & O, an alumina collector reinforced with TiO2, & an organic cathode.
