“We do not say ‘Never Again’ because we believe that the ill has been eradicated, nor that the fight is over; we say ‘Never Again’ because we have embraced the reality of a perpetual resistance against the recurrence of the evil that tried to break us, to erase us.” - First Lady Mrs Jeannette Kagame As we continue #Kwibuka32, Her Excellency reflects on the enduring responsibility of remembrance, the courage of survivors, and the duty of every generation to defend truth. “Kwibuka carries profound meaning for our nation. It is how we confront and overcome the divisions that nearly destroyed us. This day empowers us all. We draw on the strength of survivors, who provide the reservoir of humanity that feeds our nation’s soul. To all survivors, know that you are not alone. We stand with you always. Everything we have achieved, was only possible, because all Rwandans decided to join hands in common purpose. We honour the role played by every Rwandan, in our country’s rebirth.” President Kagame | #Kwibuka32

Rwanda is proud to have hosted this historic UCI Road World Championships. I congratulate all the riders who competed across our capital city for their remarkable achievements and resilience. My sincere appreciation to my friend, David Lappartient @DLappartient, the UCI team, our partners, the security organs who kept the race route secure and the people of Rwanda whose energy and support made #Kigali2025 truly unforgettable.

Mbega mbega ibyiza mw'ijuru ry'iwacu! As curtains fall on UCI week in #Kigali, it’s clear this was more than a cycling event. It was proof of what #Rwanda and #Africa can achieve. The @UCI_cycling Order awarded to President Kagame is a fitting tribute to vision turned into reality. #Kigali2025

The aspect I think about on Kwibohora is how liberation didn’t just save lives.
It saved the idea of Rwanda itself. Had the genocidaires succeeded in their extermination plan, do you think they would have had a country after that? No. It would have been a nation of serial killers, with murder recognised as policy. The country would be deeply fragmented, broken into provincial enclaves ruled by paranoia and brute force. The state would have collapsed from within - corrupt, isolated and ungovernable. Because of Inkotanyi, Rwanda survived the death of the state.
This country was fought for, rescued, protected, and built with intention. That’s why today, we mark 31 years of liberation safe in our homes, life in our streets, and food and drink on our tables. We are not iciro ry’imigani. We are a country to reckon with. A country of great audacity, dreams, and unity. And that’s one hell of a love story to inherit. We’re not yet where we want to be.
But Kwibohora should always remind us that we can’t ever let Rwanda go. Tuko Pamoja. ✊🏾
