@russellquirk Did you make this up for the attention, or because you genuinely thought you wouldn't get caught in the lie?

I’m sat in my first Essex County Council meeting on Monday morning, listening to a councillor induction presentation. ‘Any questions?’ asks an officer. A hand goes up. ‘Yes’ says a recently elected Labour member. ‘Do I get a pension as a councillor?’. His first question was about how much money he gets. Not procedure, or meeting dates or where the loos are… but how much cash he can grab. Same old Labour.

@5haronl @Nigel_Farage "I don't care where the politicians i like got his money, or what the person who gave it to him wants in return. He says things i like." "Good" politicians don't tend to take personal donations from private business people to advance their interests. That is not patriotism.

I don’t care what donations @Nigel_Farage received or how he spent it. All I care about is whether he’s is a good politician & a patriot & what he will do for the country. He’s our best politician, a great patriot and he has our best interests at heart. That’s all we need.

@LisaMarieBoothe My buddy Bob (on the right, related via marriage), passed during the plandemic fiasco. My family never got vaxed, his did. According to Biden un-vaxed were the problem. As far as I know there was no funeral, he was a Navy Commander, WWII vet that just disappeared.

@Lewy_B_2013 @LOS_Fisher @lukerobertblack So I'm clear on what you're saying, the £5m gift was a reward for Farage campaigning for the political movement that was Brexit, and specifically to pay for Farage's security as a political figure, while also being nothing to do with politics and therefore not declarable?

👀 Farage is now claiming the £5mn gift from Harborne was a “reward for campaigning for Brexit for 27 years” Quite the shift from saying it was to fund his personal security... Also seems to undermine he previous claim that the cash “wasn’t political in any sense at all”

@bmay My £0.02, this is not how she wanted it to go, and her heart really isn't in it. She's not that thick, and she knows in the long run this is going to look atrocious.

@donmcgowan Not a single explanation Nigel Farage has given for the £5m he received from a Thai-based Crypto billionaire stands up for it not being declarable. He keeps parroting "unconditional basis" because he thinks that'll save him from the rules. But it won't.

A) Unconditional personal gift. B) Gift to pay for personal security. C) Reward for Brexit. Three excuses in less than two weeks for Farage's Five Million. It doesn't take Miss Marple to work out that he's a liar and knows what's about to come. Houses coming out of every orifice, all paid for in cash. Crypto donations STILL undeclared. The house of cards that Reform UK is built upon may just be about to topple.

@adamlangleben It's literally the only leg he has to stand on for it not to have been declarable. And it's a ridiculously flimsy one at that.

@adamlangleben If I had to guess, Farage keeps saying "unconditional basis" because the wording of the MP's code of conduct is *very* specific about what would need to be declared, and he's trying to get around the idea of payment for influence.

I dont understand why he keeps saying the gift was on an unconditional basis... on every interview... my understanding is all political donations or gifts (never normally personal gifts, and almost always for staffing) are or should be unconditional. Or is he implying otherwise?

@donmcgowan So within 3hrs of Nigel Farage, presumably inadvertently, giving a contradictory explanation for why he got £5m from a Thai-based crypto billionaire, he tries to make it look like he's suffering press intrusion to get people back on the security explanation again? Laughable.

@Lewy_B_2013 @LOS_Fisher @lukerobertblack "...any financial interest which might reasonably by thought by others to influence a Members actions, speeches and votes in parliament." Speaking as one of many "others" who have had exactly that thought, nice to meet you. I know you'd like it to stop. But it won't.

@Lewy_B_2013 @LOS_Fisher @lukerobertblack The two versions don't align. £5m for security = The money can/will ONLY be spent on security. £5m reward for years of hard work = The money be spent on whatever he wants (convenient, now that there is strong case for the idea he might have bought house using the money).

@InfernalBore @LOS_Fisher @lukerobertblack Jesus Christ. One of them is reason for giving the money. The other is the purpose it is given for and must be used for. Please tell me you can understand this.

@Lewy_B_2013 @LOS_Fisher @lukerobertblack Then - "I was given £5m specifically for my personal security." Now - "I was given £5m specifically as a reward for my long years of hard work on Brexit." They're not the same thing.
