@NiseNoMasuku @VirgulaVirgula_ hi, i don't really add terms that aren't used by native english speakers. i love hearing about non-english FGC lingo but it's outside the scope of my project to open up terms to all languages/cultures, i wouldn't be able to keep up

@Infilament Could you add the term "Vírgula Jump"? It's a commonly used expression in Brazil for when you jump to dodge a Fireball, but accidentally end up landing on it This expression was based on the player @VirgulaVirgula_ who is famous for repeating this mistake several times on stream

My latest glossary.infil.net update is live! I've somehow surpassed 1,000 terms! Thanks to everyone who continues to use and share the site. This update has 22 new terms and 30 new videos, mostly Fatal Fury: CotW terms as well as video for the 2XKO terms from last update.

@Chris_F_22 i think it's very over-exaggerated how much "modern games punish defense". sf6 (for ex) has many buffs to defense, like big throw tech windows and large pushback, bad crossups, lots of minus frames, etc. yes there is offense that can hit you but this should be true of all games

interesting how modern fighting games actively punish defensive play, but 3 of the most viewed FGC clips (evo moment 37, Go1 vs Leffen, lil majin vs JDCR) are all matches won off of strong defensive plays against powerful offense

@KyoShiro3S @HiFightTH at evo 2024, the largest 3s tournament ever, Resolve (a 21 year old urien player) got 5th place, beating shirokuro in top 8. on commentary, justin also told the story of how a 15-year old Chi-Rithy, at his first ever major tournament, beat him in the chun mirror. hope that helps

I don’t think a lot of people understood my point behind the tweet. Firstly it’s all coming from a love perspective I’m happy that young men are involved in the FGC and im not hating on them or the game. So even if a 14y.o kid pick up 3S and train like hell for 10 years he wouldn’t beat pros. My point is due to the difficulty of the mechanics of 3S you can play for 10 years and you wouldn’t be able to farm pro Japanese players now. It’s all love guys I was a kid and I’m still one.

@Nozushii @Ritchy_cap fireball trap is throwing one slow fb from the correct distance to create enough frame advantage on block to then allow you to the row a second fb that cannot be jumped on before it recovers and allows you to anti air @Infilament you have no entry for fb trap? or am i missing it

@Floateroni @TommyToledoFGC choosing when and how to make a term its own thing (vs just lumping it together with something else) is a super inexact science that i've been working at for the last 4 years. in general, if i can write a paragraph on unique nuances of a thing, it prob deserves its own entry

@TommyToledoFGC i really dont know why they added specific listings for half these terms instead of maybe slightly editing the terms they already have to include how they may work in that game too, reeks of riot partnering to manipulate the language people use instead of using universal terms

I know i am more of a riot hater than most but is the vibe of adding game specific lingo to the fgc dictionary that is terminology the community has otherwise landed on 100% organically not kinda weird to anyone else

@TommyToledoFGC riot's involvement was basically "here's how our game works, feel free to use this information as you'd like" and me asking them a question based on video footage and them saying "oh that's changed in the latest build, here's how it works now". everything else was my own work

(In case it's of concern to anyone, the team at Riot and I both agreed it was important that I had full control over what was written, which terms were defined, etc. So the work done here is identical to how all my other terms were made, just done in time for the beta launch)

I've updated glossary.infil.net with terms from 2XKO in time for their closed beta launch! I'll also be doing a full video pass on these terms soon, as well as continuing to work on other glossary features (implementing the standard feedback and other missing terms).

@gduhxtd @Play2XKO i think if alpha 3 and cvs2 were released in the modern day, i would indeed have different entries for all the grooves/isms, but they're very old games played by relatively few people (and the balance is pretty bad too), so that impacts the desire/need for separate entries imo

@Infilament @Play2XKO That's fair. I can see the pros of splitting the entry, it just feels a bit off when grooves, ISMs and MB Moon System are single items while Fuzes have unique entries. Regardless, the content looks great! (Maybe an entry for Doubles for SSB, 2X and SFxT?)

@gduhxtd @Play2XKO i thought there was enough important information to talk about how each fuse works in their own entry. the main "fuse" entry is already extremely long even with just 1 sentence summaries of each fuse.

@Bri4nF it's possible they are trying to fully control the broadcast so that they can eventually pull a switcheroo and make the whole thing PPV, but that would make me sad and would burn through a lot of the good graces sf6 has earned. hope that's not their goal.

@Infilament I think there's insentive for them to preserve control of their broadcast distribution as they've already done ppv for the playoffs. I see it as a general trend in that direction to control distribution to monetize accesss

@Bri4nF yeah the playoffs last year were ppv and then made free about a week later, but that was just 2 or 3 broadcasts while the reg season was like 30+ broadcasts which could be watched live or on VOD for free imo it's "our way or the highway" mentality just for the sake of it

@Infilament Good point, I believe the playoffs phase is all ppv and the free broadcast is a few days later from what I recall. All efforts seem to be trying to funnel to this exclusive viewing experience starting even with this regular season restriction

@Bri4nF is the product ppv though? at least last year, i could easily watch SFL japan for free on their youtube at any time they are just trying to make sure all views go to exactly that one channel and never any other channel, which imo hugely tanks exposure and interest

It has become the expectation for western audiences that ppv should never exist, that the broadcast should always be free. And esports reaffirmed that notion here for years. In Japan, they quickly locked down the product and made it ppv, as we see with SFL japan
