If you are a student-athlete and you earn an opportunity to play your sport in college and receive financial help.....it is an HONOR! At any level D1, D2, D3, NAIA. College allows student athletes to get a jumpstart on being a CEO #College

@tryfactor Agreed. Teaches a higher hoop IQ and decision making. Obviously bad decision making will happen too. Part of growth

@CoachJeffLeach The biggest factor from 12 to 18 is: FOCUS. The best players at 12 have limited outside distractions. However from 14 to 18…there are a lot. Boyfriends/girlfriends, other friends, alcohol, drugs, gangs, other sporting interests. If only all athletes can stay focused

I constantly hear "The best players at 12 don't become the best players at 18" but I don't often see evidence of that. Been coaching in south central TX since 2009. I can tell you most of the best local high school seniors were amongst the best players at 12 w/few exceptions-

Here is an idea for parents of 2026-2028 HS parents: For the next 25 days, every day, count how many student athletes are A. After careful consideration, reopening their recruiting process. B. Due to unforeseen circumstances, seeking other opportunities. C Looking for opportunities and " officially entering the transfer portal FIT Matters, levels and divisions do not!

D3 or JUCO? As a former D3 athlete I can relate to kids not wanting to go D3 at first… but that’s basically all because of perception. The truth is D3s have some of the best schools in the country. This is also a regional topic because a kid in Texas is probably more likely to go JUCO than a kid from New England where we grow up on D3 being around. Would love to hear you guys thoughts!

Recruits: Sometimes the sport you love isn’t going to pick you back. A lot of 6’3” hoopers that will never get D1 interest, but if they just make a switch and commit to football, they become a hot commodity with the increased scholarship opportunities!

@AMB2Live That happens when adults have their own dreams and unfulfilled purpose, but their kids carry that burden.

Somewhere in the last 10 years, youth sports became more about adults than the kids. This shit HAS to change man.

Saw a lot of HS baseball games this season. Notes: 1. Get in the WEIGHT ROOM. 2. If a pitcher doesn’t have elite velo, it’s a heavy diet of off speed called from dugout. 3. Baseball IQ is extremely low. 4. Lack of team chemistry. 5. Zero synergy from orgs & HS staffs.

The strongest academic-athlete path usually starts before the family feels desperate. Grades. Course rigor. Physical development. Communication. Video. Fit. Timeline. These pieces need to be built early, not rushed late.

Players- When I was a college coach, every tournament I attended, I had a list of players I was going to watch. Accidental recruitment rarely happens. If coaches don’t know who you are the odds are stacked against you. @nresultsrecruit @AlamoCityHoops1

@PeyHeyrani Depends on the type of parents you want in your program. The pro ambition parents can be very demanding, flighty, and unrealistic. However, those pros attract more kids and money. The college and scholarship parents are more realistic and understanding.

As an AAU director would you rather hang your hat on the 1-2 pros you coached or on how year in/out you’re able to get the 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th guy on your 17U team scholarships?
