So your bills are about $2400 and your income is about $3450 a month. Fed tax with FICA is about $500 a month. That leaves $2950 a month minus $2400, which leaves $550 for everything else. You’re almost there. Ask your boss for 5 hours a week overtime and you may be okay. Start looking for a better paying job!

@CyberGuyVick I would say do computer engineering or info tech. You don’t wanna be a programmer, you want to work with tons of tech. Learn python and then msbuild for all the .net deployments. Think of adding security to the pipeline to fix and protect deployments

What y’all think about a masters in computer science? Might not have to take bridge courses. 🤔

@CyberGuyVick Nobody wants to be a system admin. Network admin. Firewall admin or cloud engineer.

There are many cybersecurity jobs available, honestly. I think most people just have a bad strategy or want to make a lot of money starting out. Folks aren’t willing to be flexible either.

Linux System Administrator roles are super slept on and the work isn't difficult if you get on a good program. In the cleared contractor world you can easily make over $200K/yr.

I didn’t realize that most top master's programs in cybersecurity, in general, expect you to have a background in programming and data structures unless you go the interdisciplinary route. That’s kinda wild.

@CyberGuyVick I feel like Claude is built for using for work. I don’t like copilot and ChatGPT is my personal daily driver. I like how Claude offers to build or spreadsheets and repo folders. I can just download and open in my vs code

@Ahmed___khaan My masters focus was network security. Man there were so many connections to companies so I knew I would have work. On the flip side there was lots of things I needed to learn outside of the curriculum that I gained from reading GitHub repos and labbing .

What advice would you give to students studying Cybersecurity at university?

Northern Virginia is definitely a place to come settle and start a family in. That’s probably the best thing it has going outside of the high paying jobs.

@CyberGuyVick I did the standard. It’s 35 a month. Plenty of labs to get hands on. CKA and CKS has more labs than I can count. I would have failed without it

Yea man this Docker course is losing me. Ima run through Kubernetes fundamentals real quick then I’m getting back on my AWS studies. I just need to get good at one thing at a time.
