🚧 One of the least documented mega urban mobility projects currently under construction in Howrah A MASSIVE multi-span ROB is taking shape near the Shalimar railgate, with the structure appearing to connect the Coal Depot side with the Phari/Shalimar corridor through a grade-separated crossing over the extensive railway yard. The scale of the steel girder work, long elevated approaches and complex alignment suggests a major future mobility upgrade for the entire Shalimar logistics + station zone potentially eliminating one of the region’s long-standing railgate bottlenecks. Surprisingly underreported project.

Yes there are actually multiple ongoing/recently proposed riverfront & ghat redevelopment initiatives across the Hooghly corridor. Some notable ones: • ₹89 crore modern Howrah ferry terminal under advanced construction • Redevelopment/restoration plans for Kumartuli, Nimtala, Chotelal, Surinam & several other ghats • Hooghly riverbank revitalisation project with SMP Kolkata + IIT Kharagpur • Proposed river cruise terminal infrastructure • Riverfront beautification stretches between Kumartuli Champatala & Jorabagan sections The larger pattern seems to be: moving from isolated ghat beautification toward a broader Hooghly riverfront redevelopment narrative.

🚨 FINALLY — THE MOST AWAITED NOTICE FOR ORANGE LINE METRO HAS ARRIVED 🚇 Kolkata Police has officially issued the traffic notification for segment launching work at Chingrighata Junction on the Orange Line Metro corridor. Work will take place between: • P317–P318 • P318–P319 ⏰ Major traffic diversions & flank closures on E.M. Bypass will remain active during: • 15–18 May • 22–25 May This is significant because segment launching marks visible viaduct construction progress on one of the most critical pending stretches of the New Garia ↔ Airport metro corridor.

If approvals, land related clearances and execution move on schedule, a realistic best case estimate would likely be around 2031–33 for phased opening/public use Since this is currently at DPR stage, timelines can still shift significantly depending on approvals, funding and traffic integration planning

🛣️ NHAI has officially initiated the DPR stage for a proposed 6-lane elevated corridor along the 16-km Belghoria Expressway in North 24 Parganas, West Bengal. The tender was officially floated on 12 May 2026. Why this matters: The Belghoria Expressway is one of the most strategically important connectors in the Kolkata region, linking: • NH16 • NH19 • Dankuni freight belt • Jessore Road • Kolkata Airport The proposed elevated corridor aims to separate long distance freight traffic from local traffic potentially reducing one of the region’s biggest congestion bottlenecks. Interesting part: This also aligns with the larger logistics & freight modernization narrative emerging around the Kolkata–Dankuni corridor.

@InfraAddaofWB I would rather stop this solicitation of Customers from Howrah Station buses and shouting "ae Howrah howrah, sealdah sealdah, raja bazar, dharmtallaa, maniktala," "ae aaste aaste ledizz aache*, "ae bappa aah aah". All names are written on these private buses but still they shout

📍If you could prioritise ONLY 4 things for West Bengal over the next decade… What would they be? Could be: • Railways 🚆 • Trams 🚋 • Cleanliness 🧹 • Ports ⚓ • Industry 🏭 • Flood control 🌧️ • Airports ✈️ • Tourism 🌄 • Riverfronts 🌊 • Walkability 🚶 • Manufacturing 📦 • Urban planning 🏙️ Curious to see what people think Bengal needs most urgently right now.

🚆 Eastern Railway is launching a new rapid-response cleanliness initiative from 16 May. Under #ERChallenge, passengers will reportedly be able to: • Spot unclean areas at stations • Report them instantly • Receive action within 30 minutes Interesting move because cleanliness responsiveness — not just infrastructure expansion — is becoming an increasingly important part of passenger experience modernization across Indian Railways.

@Spencer_smith_1 Metro is already in construction at a larger scale with expansion plan which was being stopped by the previous government, so right now we are looking at large scale transformation of metro in just 5 years

🚆 North Bengal’s strategic rail connectivity continues expanding. Indian Railways has approved a new weekly Amrit Bharat Express connecting: 📍Amritsar ↔ New Jalpaiguri Interesting part? The train will reportedly use: • Lalitgram Bypass • Araria–Galgalia section further strengthening connectivity between: Punjab • Bihar • North Bengal • Siliguri corridor.

📍Interesting signal emerging from today’s BNCCI meeting. West Bengal BJP president Samik Bhattacharya reportedly discussed: • New land policy reforms • Industrialisation hurdles • Investor confidence • Land aggregation challenges • Largescale manufacturing revival The biggest takeaway isn’t politics itself it’s that “land policy” is returning to the centre of Bengal’s industrial conversation again after many years.

📊 Interesting concept emerging in Bengal politics/governance space: A public “promise tracker” website tracking: • Cabinet decisions • Manifesto promises • Governance timelines • Policy implementation status India honestly needs more structured governance dashboards like this less noise, more measurable tracking.bjp-govt-wb.pages.dev

⛵Mumbai is planning to build a structured Water Metro ecosystem across the MMR. Meanwhile, Kolkata already sustains one of India’s largest urban river commute networks across the Hooghly between Kolkata & Howrah ghats daily With GRSE having already delivered India’s first electric ferry for WB, the bigger opportunity now is modernization & integration linking ferries with Metro, suburban rail, buses and even tram corridors into a unified multimodal transit system rather than treating river transport as a standalone mode.

Mumbai Suburban handles ~3,000+ train services daily. Kolkata Suburban handles ~1,900–2,000 daily services. That’s exactly why Mumbai solving ultrahigh frequency suburban operations matters for the rest of India too. When the largest and most complex network develops successful systems, rolling stock and operational models, smaller networks can adapt them much faster. We are not isolated systems competing against each other. We are part of one national rail ecosystem What works at Mumbai scale today can help Kolkata modernize far more efficiently tomorrow.

@_Avi04 @Siege4570 I feel sad reading your comment. Why do we always have to mimic others? Why can we not show the path to others? We really do need a large think tank in West Bengal who can propose possible ideas as the state and local level.
