Absolutely crucial analysis of parliamentary intent re the proscription regime outlined in the Terrorism Act, 2000. It was never parliament's intention that this legislation could be used to proscribe a non-violent protest group engaged only in criminal damage @Pal_action
Madoc Cairns@MadocCairns

Ahead of the expected proscription of Palestine Action - the first time a protest group has been legally redefined as terrorist - I went through the Hansard of the 2000 Act they're being banned under. Turns out MPs were assured the law wouldn't be applied this way. Thread 🧵🔽

Technology is politics. You can't embed Palantir into the army, the police and the health service without embedding its poisonous politics. So there's no place for Palantir in our NHS. newrepublic.com/post/207693/pa…

Our message is being heard loud and clear that justice needs juries. Our arguments were a big part of the debate of the Courts and Tribunals Bill yesterday. Thank you to the MPs who have listened and voiced our concerns. It was great to hear so many MPs talking about the discussions they've had with barristers on court visits and at our events. We saw from the very high number of abstentions that what we are doing is working - a strong message was sent to the government. We look forward to working with MPs and peers on the next stages of the Bill when there will be real scrutiny of the proposals and impact assessment and an opportunity for important amendments. Thank you to the 3,200 plus legal professionals who signed our letter to the Prime Minister urging the government to stop the restriction of jury trials. It’s not too late for the government to listen to us as experts and as a profession and stop before bulldozing our jury system. We are ready to support a turn to the efficiencies that will increase productivity and will actually make a difference to the backlog and delays. Ten days after demanding Britain join the war with Iran, Nigel Farage drove to a petrol station in Derbyshire to blame Labour for the price of fuel. On the same day, Trump and his own Defence Secretary couldn't agree on whether the war Farage had been cheering was just beginning or very nearly over. Reform Watch is documenting the record. Two days after declaring that "Europe can no longer be a custodian for the old world order", Ursula von der Leyen attempted to defuse the backlash by stressing her "unwavering" support for international law. The European President has overstepped her mandate - not for the first time. Her dangerous statement about the so-called "old world order" is also not the first time she buries international law. She has done so consistently throughout the last two years when it came to Israel. She has also failed repeatedly to protect the European political project - a project based on its history and grounded in the European Convention for Human Rights and the European Court. She has demonstrated time and time again her determination to ignore the lessons of history - of what happens when the power of guns silences and tramples on the power of the law. The world and Europe needs a strong Europe, prepared to resist the bullies in Russia, the US and China, not just through affirming commercial or defence sovereignty but by offering a vision predicated on international law and universal rights, a vision for the world which will take us away from the abyss created by Russia's aggression of Ukraine, Israel's genocide and US aggressions, and authoritarianism. She is unable to create this alternative path and lead Europe away from the abyss. euronews.com/my-europe/2026…

But Suella, by your own definition, you are a DEI hire. The only reason you won a seat in Parliament was that the Conservative Party leadership placed you on their "A-List", a system explicitly designed by David Cameron and George Osborne to bypass local associations and fast-track diverse candidates. You were promoted into influential roles with record speed and framed as the "future of the party" specifically because they wanted a more diverse front bench. Are you saying it was "anti-white racism" that cleared the path for your career? If you’ve truly realized that DEI is racist, will you be resigning your seat to allow a "qualified white candidate" to take your place, or are you happy to remain Reform’s token stooge? This is racism we are talking about after all and you shouldn't take it lightly. These are all direct quotes from George Osborne's (David Cameron's Chancellor's) podcast. 1) "We were very deliberate. We felt the Conservative Party had to look like the country it wanted to govern. If we had just left it to the local associations at the time, we would have ended up with the same type of candidate every time. We had to intervene to ensure we had more women and more people from ethnic minority backgrounds." 2) "It’s one of the great ironies of the Cameron years. We moved heaven and earth to diversify the candidate list, and now some of the people who came through that process, like Suella (Braverman) and Priti (Patel), are the ones most vocally attacking the very liberal, modernizing project that brought them in." 3) "It wasn't that we were picking people who weren't good enough. It was that there were brilliant barristers, doctors, and business people who happened to be women or from minority backgrounds who weren't getting a look-in. We just forced the door open for them."
Suella Braverman@SuellaBraverman

Radical idea but how about we give the best person the job, no matter what colour they are? Stuff like this is condescending, divisive and breeds resentment. It’s also damaging the game. We should call DEI what it is: anti-white racism.

A High Court judge has ruled in favour of Guardian columnist Owen Jones in a libel case brought against him by a BBC editor. Raffi Berg, the BBC’s Middle East editor, took legal action in November last year over a report by Jones which laid the blame for the BBC’s biased coverage of the Gaza genocide largely at Berg’s door. The high court has now ruled that the article’s argument was acceptable because it expressed an opinion based on a quoted body of material. “I am delighted that the high court has ruled in my favour on the key issues in the libel case brought by Raffi Berg,” said Jones. “I stand by my journalism and, if Mr Berg decides to continue the libel claim, I look forward to defending my article in court.” In his article for Drop Site News, Jones accused Berg of sanitising coverage of Israel’s genocidal violence in Gaza. "The implication is that my client goes around making decisions that actively favour Israel,” Berg’s barrister told the court at a hearing on Friday. "He is a bent journalist, that’s what the article is saying." Berg instructed Mark Lewis of Patron Law, previously a director of UK Lawyers for Israel, as his solicitor. The case is one of the first in the UK where a journalist from a major national news outlet has sued another. The last notable case was in 2019, when the BBC’s John Ware sued Paddy French, an independent journalist and former current affairs producer at ITV, for describing his Panorama documentary on Labour antisemitism as a “rogue piece of journalism”. A judge awarded Ware £90,000 in damages.

The Tories’ ludicrous position on energy was exposed on #bbcqt. Harriet Baldwin argued drilling more oil and gas in the North Sea improves “energy security”. Fiona Bruce challenged her: “If North Sea gas is sold on the international market, how does drilling more make the UK more secure?” Baldwin had no answer … bc there isn’t one. The Tories sold off our oil and gas instead of managing it like Norway. Then Brexit took the UK out of the European Union Internal Energy Market and doubled down on gas priced on global markets. Now they claim drilling more gas we don’t control will make us secure. ❌ It won’t.

I am asking you to imagine how a civilian population of over 10 million people can survive without any access to imported energy for three whole months. In Cuba, the United States is committing the most barbaric war crimes known to man — and Washington simply shrugs it off.
