Have you ever noticed that some WWI & WWII Austrian and German soldiers had scars on their faces? They’re duelling🤺scars and were common among high ranking, upper class males. Fraternities would often engage in academic fencing. These facial scars became a badge of honour and developed the fraternal bond. Lots of these upper class students became officers during WWI. This duelling🤺ritual was eventually banned, however, Adolf Hitler lifted the ban when he came to power in 1933. You’ll notice most of these duelling scars appear on the left side of the face. This is because fencers were trained in a right-handed style.🦎🤺🐊
