A revolutionary idea that brought morale to the masses 🎵 Celebrated pianist Myra Hess was born #OnThisDay in 1890. During the Second World War many London museums and galleries were forced to close, resulting in a 'cultural blackout' in the capital. It was Myra Hess who had the revolutionary idea of holding concerts in the Gallery to boost morale. Over 750,000 people attended over six and a half years, including Queen Elizabeth.
