Your mother is problematic. Your father is problematic. Your son is problematic. Your aunt is problematic. The cashier at the local Tesco is problematic. You've probably bought a cookie from a bakery made by hands that have done unspeakable things. Every chocolate bar you've ever eaten has probably killed a 7 year old child slave in Cameroon. The gas that drives your car is fueled by engines of death. Every person who has ever smiled at you in the streets has committed some act that if you knew about it, would make you profoundly dislike them. We have all been bad, small, petty, unlikeable, cruel, downright mean. Authors are not special "problematic" beings, they're just more public. Part of being an adult is recognizing that without mercy for our fellow human beings, and ourselves, we'd all be condemned to death. Reading fiction should help us understand that we're all irreparably tainted with evil, every system is corrupted, every line is broken. And like, that's okay. That's what it means to be alive.

honestly i'm this close to quitting reading for good. every single author i actually love turns out to be problematic or worse. i'm so tired of finding out after i already got attached. feels like i can't enjoy anything anymore without a background check first

@_BigMadam_ His estate was worth more than R40 million at his death. If that kind of money is managed well, it can last many generations. Unfortunately most is gone, spent on living NOW in stead of building further wealth.

Apparently, the minimum wage is socialism, taxes are theft, energy bills are Marxism, and Britain is five minutes from becoming Venezuela because a coffee shop can’t survive unless teenagers are paid in cash and gratitude. This isn’t economics; it’s a man discovering business costs exist and deciding the welfare state did it. He replaces economic reasoning with ideology and misrepresents how labour markets and public policy actually work. One senses he hasn't even read the books he's just recommended everybody read. #BadBusinessman
Peter McCormack 🏴‍☠️🇬🇧🇮🇪@PeterMcCormack

This post has exposed who should not be in politics or anywhere near the ballot box. The minimum wage is a sticking plaster for the failure of the state. It was rebranded "The Living Wage" because inflation (the fault of government), has made life too expensive. It should not be illegal for someone to want to work at a wage they are happy to accept. Business is hard and It is the state which is killing business is right now: 1. Taxes up (state theft) 2. Energy costs up (mad energy policy) 3. Product costs up (shadow state theft) 4. Less customers (cost of living - inflation) This is all backdoor socialism, control of the company and individual through law and taxation. People should be rightly angry at both the Conservatives and Labour, but to think any left-wing party can solve this, I am sad to tell you, you could not be further from the truth, things will get much much worse. We are heading towards Venezuelan / Argentinian style collapse. No nation has a divine right to be prosperous. Prosperity comes from hard work and good political leadership. We do not have good political leadership and we are killing the incentives of prosperity.

@sufyanmaan Bro are you stupid? Electric cars use energy that’s generated SOMEWHERE ELSE. And most of the time, that energy is not clean. Also, the manufacturing of the huge batteries for these cars are also not energy efficient AT ALL. Compare apples to apples mate!

Look at this image for a second. Really look at it! That Mercedes on the left? The hood is looking like a furnace The Tesla on the right? Barely warm, just a heat sign around the wheels BTW same road, same outside temp, completely different machines This is one of the pretty clear visual demo of energy efficiency A gasoline engine converts only about 20–30% of fuel energy into actual motion The rest is lost mostly as heat, through the exhaust, radiator, & engine friction Electric motors ttotally flip that ratio They convert 85–90% of their stored energy into movement. The only “hot spots” you see on that Tesla are the wheels, and most of that is just friction from the tires + brake heat Regenerative braking actually captures a lot of that energy back into the battery instead of wasting We’ve spent over a century perfecting the art of tiny controlled explosions inside metal cylinders, surrounded by cooling systems. 1000s of moving parts Oil changes Belts Spark plugs Converters Just inefficient process Meanwhile, an EV has roughly 20 moving parts. No combustion No massive cooling fans No exhaust Just magnets, copper, & better software How much of what we consider normal is actually just waste? Energy we don’t measure Inefficiency we’ve pretty much accepted What other “inefficiencies” do you think?

People from Jhb are moving into our neighborhood in droves, and they’re all installing these insane lights all around their homes. The lady across the road from me installed the sun and it shines directly into my kitchen, through the shutters, straight into my bedroom. Her other neighbour was forced to buy blockout curtains. Our once streetlight lit street that allowed natural circadian flow is now so overlit it’s hard to distinguish day from night 😩

I was at junior parkrun this morning. The kids had fun, the volunteers (as ever) were fantastic. No-one is trying to argue that parkrun isn't a great community event. We're just saying that the current gender categories remove women's access to an accurate and fair result.

South African wokes insist the only way to make rent in Cape Town affordable is to regulate it. The reason it’s expensive is because there isn’t enough supply - the reason there isn’t enough supply is because of mass semigration into Cape Town which is also why there’s squatters and land invaders everywhere.

Lisa Kudrow is giving a masterclass in escalating anxiety in THE COMEBACK S3, but there’s a layer of melancholy to her work that makes it far richer. I know the love for HACKS is strong, but I hope Kudrow wins the Emmy for creating one of the best characters in modern comedy.
