A very proud moment for the Dixon family at the North East Football Writers’ Association Dinner last night. For my dad to be awarded for his outstanding contribution to non league football over the years was very special. He’s an inspiration and legend of North East football.

The job has taken me all over the UK. The Middle East. Washington DC too. The BBC studios there are in Sunderland Place! And I have met some lovely characters along the way and made some good pals.

25 years ago today this young lad joined BBC Radio Newcastle. Back in those days it was the early shift on the Ceefax desk. Five years of Sunderland commentaries followed. 24 seasons covering @DurhamCricket Drivetime. Total Sport. And sports presenting on radios 4 and 5.

But the biggest thank you must go to the supporters who turned up , truly Magnificent. The bond the 86 squad have created with the fans is unique + incredible. And Parky himself turning up with his family was emotional. When I know the final total I will announce it - UTB Wow !
