U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio skipped a meeting with EU leaders on the war in Ukraine, a decision seen by Europeans as a sign of declining U.S. interest in involving them in conflict resolution efforts, the Financial Times reported.
Rubio was supposed to join leaders from Germany, Poland, Finland, and the European Commission in Munich on Friday afternoon but canceled at the last minute due to scheduling conflicts.
One European official called the cancellation “insane.”

The U.S. military announced a complete withdrawal from the al-Tanf base in Syria, handing it over to Syrian forces.
The al-Tanf garrison, located at the tri-border area of Syria, Jordan, and Iraq, was established during Syria's civil war.
It hosted U.S.-led coalition operations against Islamic State militants and later became a key foothold in countering Iranian influence due to its strategic position along roadways linking Damascus to Tehran.

U.S. forces at Qatar’s Al Udeid Air Base placed Patriot missiles on mobile trucks rather than semi-static launcher stations so they could be rapidly deployed or moved defensively in case of an Iranian attack, according to a Reuters analysis of satellite images showing the seriousness of strike risks and the need for rapid repositioning.
The Patriot missiles were visibly mounted on M983 Heavy Expanded Mobility Tactical Trucks (HEMTT) at the start of February, William Goodhind, a forensic imagery analyst with Contested Ground, told Reuters.
“The decision to do so gives the Patriots much greater mobility, meaning they can be moved to an alternative site or repositioned more quickly.” Goodhind said.

As to any deal between Iran and the U.S., I hope it can meet our national security objectives and the needs of the people of Iran through diplomacy. Given Iran’s behavior regarding deals, it could be a tough sell. However, I am open minded, understanding any agreement with the Islamic Republic and the United States must come to Congress for review and a vote.
