An insurance application isn't a conversation. It's a pricing tool. Every word you volunteer is a dollar they add to your premium. "Do you have a security system?" Yes or no. Don't volunteer that your neighborhood had 3 break-ins last month. "How many miles do you drive per year?" Give the number. Don't mention you're about to start DoorDash on the side. "Any claims in the last 5 years?" Answer it. Don't start telling the story about the time your buddy crashed your car but you didn't file. "Any dogs in the household?" Yes or no. Don't add "but he's never bitten anyone... yet." Every extra detail you volunteer is a data point the underwriter uses to price your risk. They're not making conversation. They're building your rate. I've seen people talk themselves into higher premiums in real time because they treated the application like a therapy session. Answer the question. Only the question. Move on. The less you say, the less they charge.

Apparently the whole Reviewing your policy before the first storm is named Knowing your wind deductible is different from your regular deductible Buying flood insurance 30 days early because there's a waiting period Documenting your entire home on video before June 1st Understanding the difference between ACV and replacement cost Having loss of use coverage so you're not sleeping in your car for 3 months Knowing what your policy excludes before the adjuster tells you Not calling your agent for the first time during a category 4 Storing important documents somewhere that isn't your house Having a plan that doesn't start with "I think we're covered" Actually works. So on that note, hurricane season doesn't care if you're ready. Be ready anyway.

And when you can’t afford food, insurance is the first thing you start cutting. That’s when one car accident, one ER visit, or one apartment fire goes from a bad day to a financial death spiral. The people who can least afford to be uninsured are the ones most likely to drop coverage.

Last night a gunman charged Secret Service at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner. Agents took him down in seconds. One agent was hit in the vest and walked away. That’s what real protection looks like. Planning with the right coverage for the worst case scenario. The President doesn’t hope for the best. He’s covered for the worst. You should be too. I broke down everything you need to know about protecting yourself financially into one book, How to Beat the Insurance Game. Link below. insuranceaf.gumroad.com/l/beattheinsur…

Be interested in seeing how the claim pays out for this one. If the equipment failed due to poor maintenance, that's a liability claim on the gym's policy. However, those plates around his waist could be an argument for misuse of the machine by exceeding the weight capacity. Between that and the waiver, that could be ground to deny or reduce the claim.

@darrelltalksfi You had a 76% increase in 2 years and 30 minutes of research fixed it. Your carrier isn't overcharging you by accident as they're overcharging you on purpose. Always shop your rate.

You can tell everything you need to know about someone by asking them what their insurance deductible is. If they don't know, they don't know anything about their finances either. Honestly, I can't find a flaw in that logic.

NFL Draft night. Your group chat is going crazy. “He’s a bust.” “Trade up.” “His ceiling is insane.” “Too risky.” You’ll risk-assess a 21-year-old you’ve never met but won’t risk-assess your own financial life. You know every prospect’s floor and ceiling. You don’t know your own coverage limits.

Vrabel's Sedona weekend: Flight to Arizona: $500 Adults-only resort: $1,200/night Hot tub with a reporter: free Breakfast for two: $80 Couples counseling after being caught: $300/session Total: thousands on a weekend that might cost him everything. Vrabel makes $5M/year. He has an umbrella policy, liability coverage, and a legal team on standby. You make $55K. You have state minimum auto and no renters insurance. He can survive this. You can't survive a kitchen fire. He's covered for the worst decision of his life. You're not covered for a Tuesday.

Everyone wants the soft life. Work from home. Passive income. Travel. Peace. Nobody talks about the insurance behind the soft life. Health insurance so one ER visit doesn't ruin your peace. Disability insurance so one injury doesn't end your passive income. Umbrella policy so one lawsuit doesn't take the house you work from. The soft life is expensive to maintain when it's unprotected. One bad day turns soft into survival real quick.

@unusual_whales And not to mention the $6.5k/year you're paying out of pocket just for your share of a family health insurance plan. Over 18 years that's $115k + in premiums alone. That's the most expensive part of having children that a lot don't think about.

@WallStreetApes $265k for something like that and your homeowners insurance on it is still probably going to run you $2-3k/year in Colorado. If you can barely afford to buy it in the first place, you probably shouldn’t given how insurance premiums keep going up every year.

“Everybody's saying there's no affordable houses in Denver. This house is $265,000. One bed, one bath in Denver, Colorado” At first I thought this was a joke but it’s not, it’s real We have a major housing affordability crisis in America Just since 2019 home prices have increased 40-50%+ in Denver Colorado Rent prices have also increased substantially, they are in 20-40% Again, this is just since 2019 Americans are being priced out of their own country. In fact, nationwide home prices have risen 44% since 2019

Just remember: 94% of people know exactly what their monthly car payment is. 87% can name every streaming subscription they pay for. 76% have never read their insurance policy. 68% don't know their deductible. 52% have no renters insurance. 41% have no life insurance. You're doing worse than you thought.

Apparently the whole Paying yourself first Building a 3-month emergency fund Shopping your insurance every 2 years Locking in term life in your 20s while it's cheap Raising your deductible and banking the savings Fixing your credit so your premium drops automatically Getting renters insurance before you get the couch Not financing a car without gap insurance Understanding the difference between HMO and PPO before open enrollment Reading one page of your policy per month Actually works. But it's not as fun to post about as your vacation so nobody talks about it.

You pay for Netflix, Hulu, Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Premium, and a gym membership you don't use. But $15/month for renters insurance is where you draw the line.

@WallStreetApes If he has comprehensive coverage, this should be covered. His best bet would be to request the denial in writing, appeal it, and then file a complaint with the state Department of Insurance. The first no is not always the final answer in situations like this.

American comes out to his vehicle, there’s broken glass everywhere. He thought it had been broken into When he walks around to the other side, you can actually see there was an explosion. There was a huge fire His insurance is refusing to pay for any of it You can actually see there is an inch of water from where the fire trucks likely put out the blaze The thing is, comprehensive auto insurance should cover this kind of damage Fire and explosion damage to your own vehicle is a classic comprehensive. It covers fires from mechanical/electrical failure, fuel issues, or unknown causes while the car is parked Water damage from firefighting efforts is almost always included as “ensuing damage” from the fire Insurance companies in America just keep getting worse and worse. Denying things that should 100% be covered. This is across all American industries not just auto He may not have comprehensive coverage but that’s unlikely, most insured drivers do

This is literally insane Colorado resident says their Democrat Governor Jared Polis is lying when he says their taxes are low, she says the real taxation comes from their “fees” She paid her vehicle registration Amount: $331.59 per year but then come the fees: - Age of vehicle add-on: $14 - Registration base fee: $43 - Bridge safety surcharge: $46 - Clerk hire fee: $4 - County road and bridge: $1.88 - Emission area area error account: $3 - Emission clean screen: $25 - Emergency medical services: $4 - Emissions program area county: $1.40 - Emission statewide air account: $1 - Insurance fee: $1 - Motorist insurance database fee: $0.20 - Peace officer standardized training fee: $2 - Road safety surcharge: $56 - Material fee for the tab (the little sticker): $0.33 Total of these 15 fees: $202.81 annually Total cost with tax and fees for her vehicle is $534.40 just for the registration
