@8bitnews1 I'm not retired and I haven't won the lottery either. I've just been busy with life I guess 😅. Thanks for the sharing.

@masterlinkueibr NTSC allows for about 240 visible lines (PAL has even more), most games on the SNES opted for a 256x224 pixel resolution. So depending on the CRT and its settings you could see vertical bars.

@RancidBacon Yeah it is a bit of work and unfortunately not my day job, still I wish I could update more often. Thanks!

@IntRegister Nice write-up! With the amount of effort you clearly put into both the development & write-up it's no wonder there's a bit of time between your updates. 😄 Thanks for sharing your work. (Saw it via HN.)

Back to electronics (I hope), bought 2 TMS9918A Video chips and they look brand new and the text is oddly different on the two, could they be fake? 🤔

So much pain and grief because one assembler fills space with 0x00 and another one with 0xff...

@leiradel @FlohOfWoe I don't know what you need exactly, but if you want to see how a Z80 works at the clock cycle level, you could use a VHDL simulator, for example, with something like the T80 cpu core which is a VHDL Z80 core. It should be accurate enough.

@JohnKennedyMSFT The only reason this didn't happen to me was because I would always get car sick, so I couldn't play with my Gameboy in a moving car.

@shano002000 I use a microcontroller to serve as an interface between the CPU and the SD Card, the CPU just requests simple commands like "open file", "read file", etc. And the CPU puts the read bytes into RAM. But using a ROM cartridge does make it a lot simpler.

@IntRegister this was a really good read. I'm beginning to see how everything works now. I'm planning on building a simpler game console that loads graphics in game cartridges(ROM) as i still don't really get how the sd card is interfaced. Thank you so much

@SarahJaneAvory I was curious, how do you know if your games are not too hard to beat but not too easy either. Do you have get some people you trust playing them before release and tweak the difficulty depending on their input?

A few people have asked when the post on my video game console's video system would be out. It's almost finished, one of the reasons it's taking so long might be because a part of it will be interactive.

@leiradel I've heard about Antstream Arcade on the GameHut youtube channel, it seems awesome. Congratulations on your new job. 🙂

@shano002000 Yes, I've actually already started writing it. I just haven't had much time for it lately. I'm gonna try to finish it by next week or so. Thanks for the interest 🙂.
