Most people have never seen what the inside of a volcano looks like from a drone flying directly over it while it's actively erupting. This is that. 👇 A drone flew directly over the Litli-Hrútur volcano mid-eruption in Iceland and the footage doesn't look real. Molten lava, slow and glowing, just rewriting the land like it's done it a thousand times before. Because it has.

@0x6e616461 Good catch, some debate exists around the exact date on this particular photo. The practice itself was documented throughout the 1930s and some images have circulated with varying dates attached

@SebastianDolj The bracket system was bolted into the window frame from inside. Still required a lot of faith in Victorian-era masonry though, fair point

@foomper According to records, surprisingly little actually did. The cages were sturdier than they look

@tweetus27423361 It's real. The baby window cage was a documented practice in 1930s London and New York. Emma Read even patented the "portable baby cage" in 1923, and the Chelsea Baby Club in London actually distributed them

@baudjump Combination of no antibiotics, no vaccines for many diseases, poor sanitation, overcrowded housing, and limited prenatal care. Child mortality in 1930s cities was devastating by modern standards

@bwg6053 Formal occupational and child safety regulations as we know them didn't really exist until the mid-20th century. This was actually considered responsible parenting at the time.

@SeedHope2 Wow we got a family who experienced this. Can you ask him how he felt ? I know he would be too little to feel at that time but may be knows more than us.
