Ferdinand Omanyala finished 8th in the Diamond League 100m in Rome yesterday while Noah Lyles took the win.
There is a pattern I have noticed over the years, and I may be wrong, but it is worth discussing.
Omanyala often looks dominant in races where some of the biggest names in sprinting are absent. Yet when he lines up against athletes like Lyles and other elite American and Jamaican sprinters, the results often seem very different.
This isn't an attack on Omanyala. He remains one of Kenya's greatest athletes and has carried the country's hopes in a discipline we were never known for.
What I find interesting is understanding why this pattern appears to exist.
Is it simply the higher quality of competition? Different race dynamics? The pressure that comes with major events? Panic? Or is it that the gap between being world-class and being the very best in the world is much bigger than most fans realize?
Either way, it's a conversation worth having. Omanyala remains one of Kenya's greatest athletes regardless.

Should we ban Somalis🇸🇴 hijab in Kenya????
.....to stop illegal Somali immigrants from sneaking across the border? Men are reportedly disguising themselves in full hijab, knowing police hesitate to stop or search Muslim ladies.
The problem is especially bad in Eastleigh, where some claim political protection. Proponents argue it's time for strict Immigration Police Enforcement and a parliamentary bill to regulate such attire for security reasons.
The big question is , Does Kenya's parliament have the will and brains to push this through???

Claiming to have rich parents but the truth is your parents know very well you cannot survive without them, you are as feeble as a deflated penis. Umetoka rehab juzi day 2 umerudi kwa chingli. So how can you lecture a grown man like me whom families depend on, about sweating, you have never sweated. You only sweat when you’re fainting after imbibing chang’aa.
Mimi ni mwanaume bana,my name is Kimani, not Cinderrela. You have no range to lecture me on hygiene,my sweat comes out as a previledge that I have done my part of the day, yours comes out as a punishment from your worn out cells

I have seen some of my fellow Kenyans disapproving of this France-Africa summit happening in Nairobi. If the same summit was hosted in Addis or Kigali, the same Kenyans would be frothing at the mouth about how Kenya has lost its mojo.
Others even claim that we are betraying our West African brothers who parted ways with France.
Kenya's foreign policy should be guided by Kenya's interests, not by other countries' grievances.
France is the EU's 2nd largest economy with a massive tech, industrial, and agricultural ecosystem. A summit opens doors to aviation partnerships, agricultural exports like tea, coffee, and cut flowers, and tourism .France alone sends millions of tourists across Africa every year. These are tangible benefits: jobs, forex, and market access for Kenyan producers. France is also home to Airbus rivalling Boeing.
As for "betraying" West Africa, each African nation navigates its own relationship with former colonial powers based on its own history and circumstances. Kenya was never a French colony. We carry no CFA franc burden, no French military bases, no Françafrique baggage. West African nations are sovereign and fully capable of advocating for themselves. Many of them, including Senegal and Côte d'Ivoire, still maintain active diplomatic and economic ties with France themselves. If they still engage Paris, who are we to boycott on their behalf?
Should Kenya also boycott China over its treatment of African debt? Should we cut ties with the UK over colonial-era atrocities? Solidarity is important, but it cannot mean economic self-sabotage.
We don't feed our children with pan-African slogans. We feed them with trade, investment, and opportunity.
We must learn to separate Kenya The Republic from political parties. The moment you do that then you may wear the rational lens.
As always I choose to remain an optimist
