@CatholicCoachP Probably longer than that, but within the lifetime of the eyewitnesses, or those close to them.

Guys, it’s God breathed, but I also don’t have full confidence in some of it. 😭
InvaderBug@InvaderbugGames

@HettrickMichael @LizzieMarbach Has the bible been through changes? Are there passages we don't have full confidence in? Sure. That doesn't mean it's unreliable, I'd even say that its God-breathed, useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness. Even the questionable bits have uses.

@CatholicCoachP Yeah, but they did so because they listened to the words of Jesus, and soon after wrote them down to give to the world, as God would have them do. That's not the hypothetical, that's just history.

@InvaderbugGames It’s almost like that’s exactly what happened, considering the fact the apostles were preaching, teaching, baptizing, celebrating the Eucharist, hearing confessions and founding churches before a drop of NT ink had even been written.

@CatholicCoachP An interesting question, if Jesus and His apostles never had their words written down, I'd guess God would make do with passing them down orally, but if that also counts as scripture then I believe He would find some way to communicate without words. You'll have to ask Him how.

@CatholicCoachP It is faith that allows me to say God has preserved the scriptures, not knowing. There's always doubt in life, the only certainty we can prove is "I think therefore I am". But if you add reason, which always has some doubt, Jesus has shown He is God through history and nature.

@InvaderbugGames So you don’t have faith that God has perfectly preserved the scriptures? If they’re God breathed how can there be any doubt about it?

@CatholicCoachP Personally I would say it is because of how well it's been preserved and it's consistency. That being said I can't know for sure because most of deeper theology is speculative. We as humans can't know as God does, but we don't need to. It's not about perfect certainty, but faith.

@InvaderbugGames You can’t say yes or no that entire Bible is the inspired word of God??? This is actually amazing to me. I’m not sure I’ve ever come across a self proclaimed Christian that would admit this.

@CatholicCoachP Good question, I can't say yes or no with perfect accuracy but considering it's the most historically reliable text we know of, I can say that through it as a whole God has given His message to us.

I’ve never once heard any Protestant appeal to church authority or tradition for this answer. We trust that the Holy Spirit has kept His word pure. And we can tangibly see that he has with real historical evidence like the Dead Sea scrolls.

If you ask a Protestant how they know the Bible isn’t corrupted, they can’t answer this properly without appealing to authority and tradition

If you think that, you don't understand my point. You can't simultaneously say that the way we know that the Bible isn't corrupted is because of the Holy Spirit and then say that, despite it being considered Scripture by the Faithful for 2000 years, we now know Mark 16:9-20 isn't Scriptural. Those are mutually exclusive claims.

@LizzieMarbach Your assertion about Mark 16 obviously says otherwise. Unless you think that the Holy Spirit was unable to keep His word pure for nearly 2000 years until the advent of critical scholarship popularized the view that verses 9-20 shouldn't be considered inspired?

@celestiumart @Alex_Ortodoxie I like both of you guys so I hate to see that, though I could see how your tweet could appear to be in bad faith though it probably wasn't meant to be. You should try to see if you can talk with him directly because I think it would be a cool conversation.

We are very familiar with mere Christianity! In fact, mere “lowest common denominator” Christianity is the reason why many of us sought out the one, holy, universal, and apostolic Orthodox Catholic Church. Please keep pushing mere Christianity!!

Props to all the orthodox speaking out about this sinful orthobro behavior. Prayers up for Katherine, her article captured the red pill brain rot that’s infiltrated this group… still many will remain silent or worse, justify this disgusting behavior.
Tim 🦬@tjm585

This week, the Christian side of twitter saw a revenge porn situation. The young woman wrote a substack piece about how red pilled theobros were affecting her particular tradition. To “rebut” her claims (but actually proving her point), someone who used to date her posted a picture of her in underwear or a swimsuit. Those who shared that photo must repent.

@doth4580 @Acts17David I never specified what books I accept or don't. I think the list of 66 books is a reliable historical source and the apocrypha and early church members likely contain wisdom, but ultimately I trust what Jesus tells us, and that is to rely on Him, that is all you need.

@InvaderbugGames @Acts17David Jesus Has indeed given us enough ans continues to give enough. But you keep denying what He has to offer. He did NOT only offer the 66 books of the Bible. That’s your problem. You have arbitrarily decided that the 66 books is everything that was offered by Jesus Christ.

Three questions for Orthodox Christians: (1) Who would you recommend for a livestream laying out the POSITIVE CASE for the Eastern Orthodox Church being the True Church? (I mean someone who would actually do an effective livestream about this, not someone too busy or too annoying.) (2) What video/lecture (20-60 minutes) do you think does the best job laying out the positive case for the Eastern Orthodox Church being the True Church? (3) What book (preferably 150-200 pages, classic or modern) do you think lays out the strongest case for the Eastern Orthodox Church being the True Church?

@doth4580 @Acts17David Is God being 3 persons in 1 being a contradiction? He is beyond our ways, and thankfully He doesn't require us to know or understand enough to be saved. I don't think he physically becomes bread, but I could be wrong and God doesn't require me to be right, but rather faithful.

@doth4580 @Acts17David I disagree that the answers are diametrically opposed. God may be present in it via spirit, body, both, or neither, we can't know yet. No ramifications we spoken by Jesus or the disciples besides taking it improperly. I trust Jesus has given us enough, certainty isn't necessary.

I do not want to focus currently on what the competing opinions are about this. I am stating with this, that 1) The answers ate diametrically opposite 2) The ramifications of the interpretation are not just big or massive; they are infinitely important. Thus to know which of the interpretations is true, is infinitely important. Is it not? If you agree, how can someone have certainty on this infinitely important question?

@doth4580 @Acts17David There are good arguments from both of those who believe His statement is metaphorical or literal. Jesus says we should do it in remembrance, and as Paul says later, we should do it in right conscience. If we needed to know the full truth instead of just obeying, Jesus would say.

There was an app on the old Ipod store, you were a chef that had to throw pans at food that came towards you from the right. The chef only had a white and and tiny little eyes, no other features. The last level was a mushroom that when you hit it, it said "More" and multiplied.

@doth4580 @Acts17David Jesus Christ was and is a real man, and the only explanation for His life being the way it was is that He was God. The words of Him and His 12 apostles have been preserved better than any other manuscript. I know Him because He has spoken to me through what we consider the Bible.

This is nonsense. You have ZERO WAY to know what was and what was not handled down from God. This is not a mere baseless accusation. It is fact. Your spiritual ancestors simply usurped a subset of what the Church inherited and pretended that that subset is from God and that the rest is not. You do not have a single reason for this delineation, you have no criteria or methodology to onow what is scripture and what is not, other than circular arguments. You simply picked some parts and your religious communities are going with that, ignoring everything else. You have been operating with an amputated part of the good message. Jesus Christ came to deliver THE CHURCH, of which part is the Bible.
