I am not a Christian buddy. In fact, most Christians hate me. Boromir's arc works whether you're Christian, pagan, Muslim, or anything in between.
There's more interiority in ASOIAF. More pages spent inside a character's head showing the internal contradiction and the psychological detail. But interiority isn't depth. 900 pages describing how a character felt as he took a shit isn't deeper than 300 pages showing what a character does in a moment of crisis and trusting me to understand why.
Tolkien's characters reveal themselves through action. Martin has to narrate the reveal.

This is evil. Notice the inversion of the meanings of the words "beauty" and "sacred." This is an advertisement, unsurprisingly, from an assisted suicide company in Canada. Suicide is being sold as the solution to human suffering, when in fact it is an escape from the very moment we have a chance to experience His Love more fully. The dual sin of murder and suicide is being subtly inserted into the consciousness with almost hypnotic television ads and a perversion of the virtue of empathy (of course, in this case with hardly any diversity). In Spain this Thursday they are going to kill (while misleadingly calling it "euthanasia") a 25-year-old girl (identified as Noelia) who was gang-raped by a group of immigrants and then tried to commit suicide, leaving her paraplegic and with chronic pain. This is reminiscent of the death cult that surrounded 29-year-old Zoraya ter Beek (see podcast episode below). Lord have mercy.
