I would a tiny inanimate object over the catastrophic Sir #TwoTierKeir @Keir_Starmer. Would do far far less damage to the nation. In fact, the whole failed @UKLabour govt could be replaced by just any random pebble of a beach. It would be the single largest governance improvement in the history of the UK.

@DuncanBannatyne @jemmm85517813 The failed @BBC should first be split up into a small number of independent firms that could be then auctioned off. I can't believe anyone would be crazy enough to spend £billions on the whole lot. So much of it is negative value.

The BBC Corporation should be sold to the highest bidder. That will probably rake in many Millions or Billions. The proceeds should be use to reduce UK debt burden.

Weird, the style you use. Blind Absolutism would be kind. But come on.. presented with examples, facts figures, you deny, deflect and scuttle around the points. Only one view can be true. When this ignorance is pointed out, the pattern is to insult, and in some way blame Islam and net zero. Weird. So many geezers like you fill the “debate” on x and other platforms, its almost like 80% of Reform/Restore voters have never seen a University let alone learned about critical analysis. yougov.com/en-gb/articles…

I should add that Makerfield has had a Labour MP since the constituency was created in 1983. It’s been run by a Labour council since it fell within the Wigan local authority in 1974. It falls within the ambit of the Greater Manchester mayor, who is also Labour (that would be you — for now). There was a Labour government between 1997 and 2010 (of which you were a part) with huge majorities. These is a Labour government in power now, with an even bigger majority. So it’s a bit odd to blame Makerfield’s woes on a PM who left office in 1990. I understand she left a legacy you don’t like. But you and your party have had more than enough time to clean it up. Why would more time make any difference?
Andrew Neil@afneil

Nice to hear from you, Andy. Thanks for the by election. We live for such things. I’m in no doubt life is tough for lots of folk in Makerfield. But it’s hardly a poster child for urban squalor/deprivation. Thatcher left power in 1990. She was followed by seven years of

It is strange how all far left ego/eco-lunatics are so rude. No civility in their echo chambers. I guess that is why they so love islamism, which is also all about denying the existence of any other religions and heretic thoughts. Time for you to grow up and look outside to see the real world.

Your examples are just individual cherry picked data points. Almost all those are foreign and have very different economic contexts. Few of them burdened by the style of socialist governance that would apply here, with ideologically pure people with zero business experience in control, alongside the greedy commie unions. Disastrous for any industry. Esp the energy firms, they do not have #ClimateScam hanging over them. Socialism has a 100% failure rate as way of organising a whole economy. The underpinning principles of socialism (price controls, quotas, etc.) have failed mankind for millennia.

Water utilities in England were a disater prior to privatisation, £billions of private investment fixed them without public money. British Rail was a disaster. As were British Telecom, British Aiways, ... UK automotive industry was nearly killed by the commie unions in the 70s. The failed #NHS is a disaster, only interested in itself extracting ever more money from taxpayers. The failed @BBC is another disaster and has zero reason to exist anymore, being nothing but a neo-marxist propaganda organ. UK has the most expensive energy in the world because of the state, and it is rapidly getting ever worse. Crazy @Ed_Miliband is most expensive politician in UK history, having killed 100s of thousands of good jobs on the altar of #ClimateScam. For nothing but the madman's ego and ideological purity. The litany of state failures is never ending. Putting the most ignorant, gullible, trasonous and stupid govt in UK history in charge of more of the economy is suicidal.

UKENERGY MARKET DIDNT LOL IDIOT Because you think it means its true. Scottish Water — Publicly owned (unlike privatized English water companies), it is frequently the most trusted utility in the UK, with strong performance in service delivery and efficiency under public control. Reading Buses (and other municipal bus companies) — Council-owned (one of nine such operations); it consistently wins awards for quality, innovation, environmental standards, high ridership (third-highest bus use per head outside London in some metrics), and affordable service. East Coast Main Line (public operation 2009–2015) — Directly operated by the state after private failure; it achieved 91% customer satisfaction and returned over £1 billion in premiums to the Treasury. Network Rail / National Highways — Government-owned companies managing critical infrastructure (rail tracks and strategic roads); they provide essential public services with long-term investment focus, reclassified as public sector for stability. Norway: Equinor (formerly Statoil) — Highly profitable oil/gas SOE that funded the sovereign wealth fund (world's largest); strong governance and international success. France: EDF (Électricité de France) — Major energy utility leading in nuclear and renewables; key to national energy security and one of Europe's largest firms. Airbus (significant state stake) — Successful aerospace champion enabling European competitiveness. Singapore: Singapore Airlines (Temasek Holdings majority stake) — Repeatedly ranked among the world's best airlines for service and profitability. Other Temasek-linked GLCs drove post-independence development with low corruption and high efficiency. China: State Grid / China National Petroleum (CNPC) — Among the world's largest companies by revenue/assets; massive infrastructure scale, global expansion, and energy security contributions (many top global SOEs are Chinese). Brazil: Petrobras — Major oil company with strong historical performance in deep-water tech; listed SOE model with governance improvements and economic impact. Chile: Codelco — World-leading copper producer; generates significant state revenue and has undergone governance reforms for efficiency. India: ONGC (Oil and Natural Gas Corporation) or various profitable PSUs — Contribute substantially to energy security and government revenues; some sectors show competitive performance. Saudi Arabia: Saudi Aramco — Extremely profitable national oil company (top global profits/revenues); funds national development with high operational standards. Germany: (Partial) stakes like in Deutsche Telekom or historical successes — Broader public involvement in utilities/infrastructure supports stable service. South Korea (historical/partial): POSCO (steel) started as SOE and became globally competitive; exemplifies state-led industrialization success.

State ownership has always been an unmitigated disaster for any industry. History shows that everywhere in the world for over a century. Creating bureaucratic monopolies the worst way of running anything, esp when there would be no pricing signals. See the economic miracle taking place in Argentina when the state interve tions are being rolled back. And vice versa in the past 30 years in Venezuela.

So cause and effect simply doesn’t exist now? I’m confused. Thatcher’s privatisation of the energy sector didn’t help get us here? Right to Buy didn’t strip two million homes from the social stock? North Sea oil revenues weren’t squandered on tax cuts? The Norman Conquest had no lasting impact? The asteroid that wiped out the dinosaurs didn’t clear the stage for mammals to dominate and eventually spawn us? Come on. History is a chain of consequences. You can’t pick and choose which links to ignore.

As usual, the failed @UKLabour govt ministers like @bphillipsonMP have to resort to lies when their wild spending and kowtowing to the commie unions delivers bad results. The main themes of Sir #TwoTierKeir @Keir_Starmer's govt has been lies, waste and failure on all fronts. As expected from a bunch of traitorous marxist clown school rejects.

New stats show we now have over 1,600 more teachers in our colleges & sixth forms. With the 2,300 more we have in our secondaries & special schools, Labour is on our way to recruiting 6,500 more expert teachers. We're turning the Tory tide on teacher recruitment & retention 📈
