Governor Alia, SGF Akume lead APC reconciliation push in Benue, signaling unity and renewed political alignment ahead of 2027 His Excellency, Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia has intensified efforts to unify the All Progressives Congress in Benue State, convening a strategic reconciliation meeting that brought together key stakeholders, including the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume. The move signals a major step toward resolving internal differences and restoring cohesion within the party ahead of the 2027 elections. At the meeting, Governor Alia emphasized the importance of bringing all factions, both aligned and aggrieved, back under one roof, describing unity as essential for effective leadership and sustainable development. He underscored that the reconciliation was deliberate and forward-looking, aimed at rebuilding trust, strengthening collaboration, and ensuring that political differences do not hinder progress in the state. The renewed alignment between Governor Alia and SGF George Akume reflects a broader commitment to stability within the party, with both leaders engaging in dialogue to harmonize interests and reposition the APC for future success. While discussions touched on support for incumbents, the governor clarified that party processes remain intact, reinforcing that the reconciliation effort is focused on unity, inclusion, and collective progress. Both Leaders extended gratitude to the President, His Excellency, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for his immense love for Benue State and it's people, which has played a very pivotal role in the reconciliation process.

Crucially, a major APC reconciliation meeting is set for this Sunday, bringing together the SGF, Senator George Akume, and federal lawmakers to unify the party for a stronger Benue. Benue Pensioners Association alongside Benue Motorbike Riders Association presents His Excellency, Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia with the 2027 Governorship Nomination and Expression of Interest Forms purchased on behalf of the Governor by the two unions. Presenting the Forms, the heads of the two unions noted that the gesture was borne out of gratitude and appreciation to the Governor for ensuring that pensioners now enjoy the needed welfare and the various infrastructutral developments which provides an enabling environment for their business to thrive. The Governor in his remarks, appreciated both unions describing the gesture as unprecedented and humbling, noting that this is a challenge to him for more work and promises to always put the interest of Benue and its people ahead of his personal interest.

Yesterday, I had the honour of leading Archbishop Dr. John Richard Abu, President of the Arewa Pastors in Nigeria (overseeing the 19 Northern States), and his esteemed delegation on an inspection tour of some critical infrastructural projects of His Excellency, Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia's administration across Makurdi, Benue State. The high-powered delegation was warmly received by the Governor at the Government House. Their mission was to witness firsthand the remarkable strides and tangible achievements recorded by the Alia administration since its inception in 2023. During the tour, I provided detailed briefings on the scope, current progress, challenges overcome, and expected socio-economic impact of each project. This reaffirmed the Governor’s unwavering commitment to industrial revitalization, massive infrastructure development, and the restoration of Benue State’s appeal as a preferred destination for both local and foreign investors. Key Projects Inspected During the Tour: - Zeva Premium Lager Beer Factory (Food Basket Brewery under BIPC): A flagship project aimed at reviving the state’s dormant brewery industry and adding value to local agricultural produce. - High-Level Underpass: A critical infrastructure intervention to ease traffic congestion and improve urban mobility in Makurdi. - Benue Printing Press: Being revitalized to support government operations and the private sector. - BIPC Bread Factory: Already delivering affordable, high-quality bread, while creating employment opportunities (with branches in some LGAs and ongoing expansion plans to other LGAs). - BIPC Water Factory: Producing safe, packaged drinking water with plans for wider distribution across the state and beyond. - BIPC Juice Factory (Benva Juice / Benfruits): Focused on processing mangoes, oranges, pineapples, and other local fruits to boost agro-industrialization and reduce post-harvest losses. - Benue Fashion Hub: Designed to nurture local talents, promote indigenous designs, and create jobs in the creative industry. - Benue State University Teaching Hospital (BSUTH): Reflecting investments in quality healthcare delivery to ensure Benue becomes a medical tourist destination in Nigeria. I also took the delegation to one of the over 385 rehabilated primary schools with a prototype of the Governor's story buildings, first of its kind in the state, underscoring the administration’s commitment to quality educational development. Alongside these, the delegation observed other ongoing developmental initiatives across critical sectors, including roads and drainages, where I noted that His Excellency have so far constructed/rehabilitated over 500km of roads across the state with an additional over 300km currently ongoing across various Local Government Areas, and ensured the construction of quality drainages which has been the reason Benue, known for its seasonal flooding, has not experienced any major flooding between the past year and now. These projects represent deliberate and strategic investments aimed at: - Stimulating local production and agro-industrialization. - Generating direct and indirect employment for thousands of Benue youths and women, thereby reducing crime rates among the youths. - Enhancing critical infrastructure. - Repositioning Benue State as a competitive hub for investment and sustainable economic growth. - Reducing capital flight by adding value to the state’s rich agricultural resources. The delegation, led by Archbishop Dr. John Richard Abu, commended the Alia administration for its proactive, visionary, and results-driven leadership, noting that the visible progress on ground reflects a clear roadmap, purposeful governance, and a genuine commitment to the welfare and prosperity of the people of Benue State. This visit further strengthens inter-regional relationships and demonstrates that development knows no ethnic or religious boundaries. Yesterday, I led my team on our first enforcement mission to dismantle illegal and unidentified billboards, commencing at Tito Gate. We are also set to begin mobile court sittings to ensure that defaulters are sanctioned in line with the law. The law establishing the Benue State Signage and Advertisement Agency mandates us not only to allocate sites and supervise the installation of billboards, but also to dismantle, relocate, and confiscate all illegal, unlicensed, and unidentified structures. This exercise is part of our statutory responsibility to regulate outdoor advertising and ensure full compliance across the state. A public announcement was issued weeks ago directing all owners of commercial billboards to present themselves for documentation, providing details of the location, dimensions, and number of billboards under their control. While we commend those who have complied, we urge others who are yet to do so to immediately contact 09034345007 for necessary action. Non-compliance will attract the full weight of the law.
