Prime Minister @masrourbarzani tells @_HadleyGamble in #meps24: We have lost over $20 billion since the oil exports (to Turkey) stopped more than a year ago - nearly $1bn/month. That has hurt Iraq as a whole, but the Kurdistan Region has bore the brunt of it. Moreover, we haven’t been adequately compensated – we see late payments from Baghdad and loss of revenues for federal coffers.

President @masoud_barzani speaking at #MEPS24 @OfficialAuk: I congratulate the people of Kurdistan on a successful election and hope that elections in Iraq next year will go as well and will benefit from the experience of the elections in Kurdistan. Today, relations between the KRG and the federal government are good and problems are dealt with through dialogue. We hope this will continue. We all pray for an end to the conflict in the region and in no way should Iraq be involved.

Noteworthy photo of President Erdogan with the Kurdish leadership. This highly symbolic moment captures the essence of Turkey’s relationship with the KRG, which stretches back to the early 1990s when the KRG was first established and secured its autonomy from Baghdad.

President Erdogan’s visit to Iraq will see Iraq and Turkey re-assert their long-standing economic ties, with 20 deals expected to be signed. The visit could see an end to the impasse over Kurdish oil exports but sources in Baghdad believe a solution is not yet on the horizon.

A #StrongerKurdistan requires a concerted and collective response to climate change, one that includes decision-makers, businesses, civil-society and the youth. Kurdistan is duly represented at #Cop28 by Prime Minister @masrourbarzani, @IKRPresident and other KRG officials.

Honored to attend #COP28 with Prime Minister @masrourbarzani. KRG Minister of Agriculture and Water Resources Begard Talabani and I had a meeting with the @UNDP and visited the Iraq pavilion. Discussions centered around potential funding for projects in Kurdistan and Iraq to help us tackle climate-related challenges. Happy to see Iraq Climate Envoy Fareed Yasseen, former Iraqi Ambassador in Washington.
