Yeah. Tough to disagree with your take that comes from long years of watching Iraq. I am already noticing Zaidy is not a big fan of an open governance style.

@IraqShamel Not holding my breath with no party behind him he will have to find ways to build power and influence with a bunch of parties that are already very angry with each other

@UticaRisk Good question. The commentary focuses on the lack of his grammar skills. I don't think he can fix that. His local accent is clearly there but he is also not the most dynamic public speaker imo.

@IraqShamel How much of it is the ability to speak Arabic grammatically versus having a distinct local accent that makes his voice stand out?

Zaidi getting widely slammed for weak oratory skills by Arabic speakers. This handicap may be with him for a while. Let's see if he can get over it with some governance solutions or some amazing management skills.

Pleased to participate at @AtlanticCouncil Iraq Dialogue, discussing not the Iraq in headlines, but that of students, entrepreneurs, civil society, and resilience. Proud to share how young Iraqis and institutions like AUIS are building a more open, capable, and connected future.

Always great to see attention to Iraq in Washington. The Iraq Dialouge organized by @VictoriaT_ was a tremendous platform to see where the country can go and where it cannot go.

It has been a truly busy and meaningful week for #Iraq in #Washington, D.C.. I was very pleased to organize a number of meetings and roundtables for friends and colleagues visiting from Baghdad, alongside the “Iraq Dialogue 2026” hosted by the @AtlanticCouncil. The week included engaging discussions at several leading think tanks and institutions, including the @NewlinesInst, @MiddleEastInst and the @GulfStatesInst. There were many conversations, diverse perspectives, and thoughtful debates — yet throughout every meeting and discussion, #Iraq always came first. My sincere thanks to the wonderful team at the Atlantic Council, led by @VictoriaT_ and special thanks to my dear friend @DaniaArayssi I am also deeply grateful to Dr. Abbas Kadhim for their warm hospitality and meaningful engagement. It was truly Iraq’s week in Washington.

It was great to participate in the #Iraq Dialogue organized by the @AtlanticCouncil, moderate a private roundtable on “Advancing Iraq’s Periphery: Governance, Security, and Development in #Ninewa Province”, and see friends and stakeholders interested in Iraq.

Reasons Moqtada issued this statement: - To signal movement's continued relevance in politics and public life. - Signal to Zaidi not to change any Sadrist positions top among them Hamid Ghezi's cabinet secretary. - To demonstrate anti-militia/fasail Sadrist stance.
The New Region@thenewregion

The prominent Iraqi Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr on Friday called on PM-designate Ali al-Zaidi to "completely exclude" any politician affiliated to an armed group from his cabinet, expressing willingness to transfer his own armed faction to the state thenewregion.com/posts/5310

And per usual, the government program got leaked. More on it later. Top line: it is ambitious and generic in some ways while giving a nod to supporting the Hashed and control of arms by the state. In addition to the reference to the SFA as a guide for U.S.-Iraq relations.

My latest article discusses the formation of a tripartite committee by the Coordination Framework to disarm armed factions. What is the factions' stance? How feasible is this move, and what are the actual efforts and capabilities to enforce it? alhurra.com/en/19834
