This would preclude many very talented academics. I first started at £28k and many post-doctoral positions are still no more than £31k. This could encourage universities to raise the academic salaries in response to this, but it is unlikely to happen. What is likely to happen is that universities are going to become even less diverse in thought and practice & miss out on excellent researchers. It is such short-sightedness.

We’re increasing the minimum earnings threshold for skilled workers by 48% to £38,700, encouraging businesses to look to British talent first and invest in their workforce.

Been posting HPAI research articles now for ~ 1 year. 362 paper summaries tweeted, and there is no indication the number of papers will slow down. Will keep going as long as it remains a useful resource. Summaries and other HPAI resources available at michellewille.com/avian-influenz…

"H5N1 is devastating the world’s birds. Eagles are dropping dead, as are great horned owls and peregrine falcons and pelicans... It’s the worst thing that has happened to wild birds since the pesticide DDT" nytimes.com/2023/04/23/opi…
