@ckelleyexe @CRJakob DLSS + RR is amazing, and leagues ahead of what it was a few years ago. (You can run it in DLAA to just get the better denoiser, with no upscaling).
Realistically, it's only going to get faster.

@IrisShaders @CRJakob I'll admit I'm biased against RT since nobody seems to get it right. RT has 2 main pitfalls in sampling & upscaling technique. IMO the best currently available is ReSTIR PT & Nvidia's NRD (DLSS is garbage). I don't know what is/isn't possible in MC but that's my take - fair?

okay, been seeing a lot of thoughts about this, so to get everyone up to speed.
The new mod is named Aperture, and is currently in private beta. It does not support old packs, and there's... honestly not much to show, as I just started on the Vulkan rewrite last month.

@ckelleyexe @CRJakob ReSTIR is just a sampling method for RT, and still requires all the RT tech.
PRT is at least partially baked, making it *impossible* to use in MC.
SDFGI is not fully real time.
Ray tracing is chosen because it is the only good option for MC, not because of the hype.

@IrisShaders @CRJakob Yes but RT is well... the single least efficient method of dynamic lighting. PRT, SDFGI or the new ReSTIR PT or even better ReSTIR GI with Neural Enhancements. Seriously tho explore your options don't pick RT because RT marketing - love your work btw

@messeduppcs Even if they *did* get it back in 2011, if they didn’t enforce it they’d have issues.
youtu.be/rRi8LptvFZY is a very popular example of this, but tl;dr: even if you get a trademark, if you do not enforce people not using the name, you can effectively lose it

@messeduppcs the specific reason it was denied was because by the time it was requested (2019), "Skyblock" was already being used as a genre name and not to refer to that one map. You can't trademark something if everyone is already using that name to refer to the idea

@ckelleyexe @CRJakob Baked lighting is also... baked.
That is somewhat of a big problem in many cases.

@CRJakob @IrisShaders You don't need RT cores to perform RT - RTX cards just do it better. The problem is RT is dumb - imagine if you needed to compile a movie before you watched it - that's RT. Backed lighting does 99% of RT (see last of us p2) but doesn't compromise performance.

speaking of, is there anything wrong with Modrinth? there must be something!
i had a 10+ year break from minecraft and had to relearn how to manage a modded client last year, which is when i found Modrinth. it's so good????? clean, pretty, fast, stable, no bullshit!
very open, has APIs for pretty much anything (you can fetch their daily ad revenue with it!) . works on windows, linux, macOS. comes in nixpkgs.
i submitted some mods and they scanned them automatically + reviewed manually before publishing (hey vscode marketplace whats up??)
why? what's the catch? a commercial software product like this is not possible in 2026. is there some secret sauce that makes your product immune to bullshit? trans women on the team?

Fuck CurseForge. We are removing our mod from CurseForge immediately, for the following reasons (as well as *more* that I just didn't get to).

@AmedLiagos Shaders have settings, unlike texture packs; and once you learn them, you’ll want to be changing them constantly.

Imagine if there was a hotkey to go to the resource pack menu, that doesnt sound too useful to bind automatically

The changes that are probably going to happen:
- Shader screen (O currently) will be changed to i
- Reload button (R currently) will be changed to F3 + R
- Toggle button (K currently) will remain unchanged

Okay, we have a problem. The Iris shader list button, as everyone knows, is O. The new friends list is also opened with O. What do I change the Iris button to?

@ItzAngel_079 Unlikely in the near future, but it’s very possible the way they’re going. Sodium replaces the chunk mesher (turning blocks into visible geometry), as well as the chunk renderer (drawing that geometry).
There’s a lot of complicated details like vertex formats, etc.

@IrisShaders What exactly does sodium that even with vulkan it is still better than vanilla?
It changes the rendering engine/logic, but like completely changes it with something that perform better?
Do you think that vanilla could out done sodium in the near future?
