@q_w_e_r_t_y_08 @AutismCapital 1: probably, if they’ve never seen the game before! But it does, objectively, do two things; make the graphics physically wrong (it’s trading accuracy for something ‘more pleasing’) and changes the intended style.
2: it’s an unfixable problem. Nothing else to it.
English

@IrisShaders @AutismCapital 1: I can guarantee if you'd show both images to someone without context 99% will say the AI generated ones look better, so it is objectively better.
2: This is nvidia we're talking about, Im pretty sure they know what they're doing lol
English

Digital Foundry was super excited about the DLSS 5 announcement (because it was awesome) so they published a "FIRST LOOK" showing it off and praising it. Then the angry anti-AI mob came for them and ripped them apart and they got bullied into backpedalling.
"We should have waited before posting our first round of coverage. We should have waited to see reactions from the audience."
Translation: "We should have waited to see what the consensus mob opinion was before we posted our own individual thoughts."
This is the reason why games suck these days. The mob bullies people into groupthink. People get so scared of giving their take they wait until the "Consensus approved opinion™️" is formed before they speak.
Nobody wants to risk having the first/independent thought and risk being yelled at by the angry mob.
It's super unfortunate, and the backpedalling here makes it worse because it signals cowardice and the majority of the mob doesn't care anyways, they'll find a new thing to hate.

The big DLSS 5 machine learning debate and why we should have waited before posting our first round of coverage - today's video: youtu.be/5dTTfjBAFzc
English

@AutismCapital 1: it is not objectively better, those characters look bad
2: the way it does it will always suffer from screen space artifacts like blotchy lighting. It’s not something you can fix by throwing more AI at the problem
English

@NealjanNealjan I think you misunderstand what I mean
talking about using ML to speed up rendering, with every game still having unique code
English

@IrisShaders usually youre really cool, but this is a horrible take
English

@greavseyyy @oldstockfonzie @MischiefsYT that is not an equivalent of world data. That is the equivalent of a video.
English

@IrisShaders @oldstockfonzie @MischiefsYT Quite literally false it has colour data and motion vectors passed from the engine
English

@oldstockfonzie @MischiefsYT This is in comparison to an AI model like Microsoft’s tech demo RenderFormer, which *replaces* the ray tracing step with an AI filter and has a copy of the world itself in its knowledge.
English

@oldstockfonzie @MischiefsYT I am well aware of that. That does not solve any of the problems that DLSS 5 is an image filter. It does not know anything about the world, and is just *guessing* a lot.
You can see that with how lighting constantly changes in the Oblivion video.
English

@oldstockfonzie @MischiefsYT It *is* an AI filter. It takes the original image and adds a filter onto it using AI. It seemingly has no knowledge of the original game.
English

@MischiefsYT It’s not an “ai filter”. It’s rendering technology. The studio decided how dlss 5.0 enhancement renders - the artists make the decisions.
You guys just blindly hate anything AI
English

@obsidan_tnt those do not need to be mutually exclusive, an AI model can just be a faster way of doing something like rendering in the future
each game should still include their own model, unlike what NVIDIA’s trying to do
English

@IrisShaders orrrrr we could leave it up to the graphic programmers and be impressed by human ingenuity
English

@x_joaqui yes, this is a bug; it is intended to only cover the right part
English

@IrisShaders I feel like the blur shouldn't cover the entire screen but only the UI part, if Aperture includes realtime settings, having the blur makes noticing diminute changes impossible
English

@juicermv no, that's just because the Switch version of Bedrock has always sucked
granted the React UI is definitely infinitely worse there, using the eShop as an example
English

@IrisShaders Gotta disagree with you there.
React is dogshit for videogames (it's kinda dogshit in general.) Idk if you ever had the chance to ever check out the Switch version but the UI takes longer to respond than the actual gameplay there. OreUI could've been done without React.
English

fun fact: this UI’s made with custom bindings for ImGui, not a native MC UI! Really impressive how much it can do if you push it.
(ImGui is the tool used by many games to make UI’s that look like this, usually. Most people don’t use it for anything more)

Iris Shaders@IrisShaders
very early UI
English

@juicermv wasn't even a bad choice, React isn't the worst thing they could use and Ore UI looks good; they just need to fix their game
English

@IrisShaders I imagine they do, I was poking fun at them using React for the game's actual GUI.
English

@juicermv Bedrock also uses ImGui in their internal builds, according to ImGui's own page.
English

@IrisShaders Really? Not a 500mb React renderer?? Someone tell the Bedrock developers about this…
