Killing or injuring healthcare workers, bombing hospitals, targeting ambulances, isn’t just a "war consequence"; it’s a collapse of humanity. Under international humanitarian law, patients and humanitarian workers are protected along with the hospitals they work in and the ambulances they rely on.

📍 Iran | We are deeply saddened by the news that Hamid Reza Jahanbakhsh, a colleague of the Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS), was killed on 8 March while carrying out his humanitarian work to support communities in Isfahan province, affected by ongoing hostilities. Our thoughts are with his loved ones and with IRCS during this difficult time.

Our new survey captures the voices of 1,462 Ukrainians across Ireland living under Temporary Protection. Many feel connected through work, schools & local communities, but concerns about long-term stability remain. Progress is clear—but more is needed to ensure dignity, stability & a true sense of home.

The @IFRC is appalled by the killing of a Sudanese Red Crescent volunteer while on duty on 5 March 2026. The loss of Um Salama Mohammed Abdullah is a tragic reminder of the dangers faced by those who dedicate their lives to helping others. The IFRC calls for the protection of civilians, humanitarian workers, and medical personnel: it is a legal and moral obligation. Our statement 👉ifrc.org/article/statem…

The @IFRC has launched its World Disasters Report 2026. The Report warns that harmful information and dehumanising narratives are increasingly undermining trust, putting the lives of humanitarian workers and communities at risk.   Our report 👉ifrc.org/document/world…

The @IFRC is following closely and is deeply concerned about the recent escalation of hostilities in the Middle East. All National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies in the region are on high alert for any possible responses needed. The IFRC calls for the preservation of humanitarian space so humanitarian and medical personnel can operate safely and reach people in need. Our statement: bit.ly/4cld3YF

1461 days of air raid sirens. 208 weeks of displacement. 48 months of families trying to hold on. Four years since the escalation of the international armed conflict between Russia and Ukraine. The impact has not lessened. Neither has the need for support, and our resolve to help.

Four years ago, on 24 February 2022, escalation plunged Ukraine into deep hardship. Since then, the Ukrainian Red Cross (URCS) has been a vital lifeline—neutral, impartial, and dedicated to humanity. URCS teams have delivered millions in aid: food, water, hygiene kits, blankets, medicines; evacuated vulnerable people; provided hot meals during blackouts and harsh winters; repaired homes; offered cash assistance; run first-aid trainings; and delivered psychosocial support to heal trauma, especially for women, children, elderly, and disabled. They’ve reached over millions of people with essential help, standing as the frontline humanitarian force. The IFRC adds crucial global value: coordinating support from dozens of National Societies, channeling massive funding to Ukraine and dozens of neighboring countries, enabling large-scale cash programs (reaching millions), scaling mental health services, winterization, health access, and recovery—ensuring URCS can sustain life-saving work amid ongoing challenges like energy crises. In tough times, the Red Cross Red Crescent Movement proves solidarity: local heroes backed by worldwide partners, helping Ukrainians endure and rebuild. Grateful to URCS volunteers, IFRC partners, and donors. Humanity endures.
