@allisonoconn The most dangerous doctors are the ones who don’t know what they don’t know.

@allisonoconn has chosen to reply to many other discussions about what she has said but hasn’t addressed the discussion of the privilege that she invoked when discussing noncompliance. These are the same folks who use #blm and claim to be allies. @MamaDoctorJones

@allisonoconn You chose to phrase your thoughts ambiguously and in an intentionally inflammatory manner for attention. If this had been your original tweet there would have been no disagreement. I hope you carefully consider the weight and power of your words moving forward.

Helloooo by no means do I believe (nor did I say) women don’t need prenatal care or that as a whole it doesn’t improve outcomes. There are aspects of prentatal care that are not evidence based and women should be allowed to make their own medical decisions without repercussions!
Allison Fitzgerald, MD, PhD@allisonoconn

Obstetrics has the least evidence-based medicine out of any medical field and we should never label a woman as “non-compliant” when they refuse prenatal care that has never been demonstrated to improve outcomes.

I cannot get past a doctor losing the plot so starkly they center privileged choices to denounce "non-compliant" labels when this is so disproportionately placed on marginalized ppl who CAN'T consistently access care. @IrobundaMd pointed this out & it's so damn accurate.

@IrobundaMd @allisonoconn @BrighamMedRes I mean, i don’t think any provider on here thinks the views of one individual represent the whole institution 🤷🏾‍♀️ the fancy disclaimer that ppl have doesn’t functionally do much.

@allisonoconn I think it's pretty clear that prenatal care (on the whole) improves outcomes and that minimal/no prenatal care is linked to worse outcomes...but I hear you. A lot of recommendations in OB are based on "expert opinion" rather than solid EBM. ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/P…

@garnethenderson @tsmendola Every single field of people have influencers….and if docs as influencers are cringey….so is everyone else. Who exactly are you so upset about? I feel like actually talking to some of us in this space would have been more beneficial than this thread.

I have tremendous respect for doctors and I know they work very hard, but one thing the current influencer doctor trend is revealing is that doctors think they work way more than everybody else and that is just... not true

@tsmendola Yes! I agree with all of that and don't mean to be dismissive of the very real labor issues they're facing. But instagram is full of reels from physicians who seem to have zero awareness that working a 10+ hour day is normal in a lot of fields, especially for low-wage workers

@RewireNewsGroup So you support progesterone-based birth control but oppose progesterone-based abortion pill reversals. So hypocritical.
