I express my solidarity with Spain in the current situation of illegal migration in Ceuta. While third-country nationals in Ceuta do not enjoy free movement to mainland Spain or the rest of the Schengen area, Spain’s firm response, including ongoing accelerated returns, demonstrates our determination to protect our external borders, combat illegal migration, and dismantle criminal smuggling networks. I welcome Spain’s close cooperation with Morocco in addressing this shared challenge and ensuring swift returns. We will remain in close contact with the Spanish authorities in the coming days.

The Gulf states urgently need a new game plan to safeguard themselves, and they should not count on the US to do their bidding. Some of the Gulf states have been talking to Iran and it has spared them the worst of the conflict; others should follow suit. One year after Saif Musallet - an American citizen - was killed by settlers, his father made the dangerous journey to the site where he was beaten to death. Within minutes, Israeli settlers armed with clubs, rocks & a knife descended on us. 4 settlers were arrested, but Saif's killer still roams free. His father Kamel says the US gov't has failed his son.
