I welcome the announcement of a three-week extension to the cessation of hostilities arrangement to enable dialogue between Lebanon & Israel, and commend the role of the US in facilitating the extension. Everyone must fully respect the cessation of hostilities, cease any further attacks & comply with their obligations under international law. I call on Hizbullah & other non-State actors to abide by the decisions of Lebanon to extend its authority throughout its territory & advance the exclusive control of arms by the State. I call on Israel to withdraw completely from north of the Blue line. I hope that this agreement will contribute to ongoing efforts toward a lasting & comprehensive peace in the region.

I spoke respectively with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun, Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa, and Crown Prince of Jordan Hussein bin Abdullah II, on the sidelines of the informal European Council meeting in Cyprus. As the countries of the Middle East and Europe face the consequences of the regional conflict, it is more necessary than ever to work together on a shared agenda of sovereignty, stability, and prosperity for the entire region. In this context, the Middle East is set to become a central link in the supply routes between our two regions, for the benefit of our peoples and economies. France will play its part. We will also continue to support the Lebanese authorities in their efforts to uphold Lebanon’s sovereignty, the state’s monopoly over weapons, and the country’s territorial integrity. France stands ready to mobilize its partners, when the time comes, by organizing a conference in support of Lebanon’s armed and security forces and of the country’s economic recovery.

J’ai échangé respectivement avec le Président libanais Joseph Aoun, le Président syrien Ahmad Al Charaa et le Prince héritier de Jordanie Hussein Ben Abdallah, en marge du Conseil européen informel à Chypre.
