Trading will never be a respectable profession. Lose money in a restaurant, startup or any other business and people will say, "These things happen." Lose money in the stock market and you're a gambler. It doesn't matter how much you studied, how disciplined you were, how many years you spent learning, or whether you followed your system perfectly. You're still a gambler. And if you manage to make money through trading? You're not skilled. You just got lucky. You gambled and won. That's the game. Lose money and you're a gambler. Make money and you're a lucky gambler. Meanwhile, someone can spend 30 years in a job they hate, complain every day, be miserable for most of their life and never take a single risk. Society will still call them responsible.
