Victory in the social media trial in LA! As of today, we are in a new world: a new era in the fight to protect children from online harms. A jury sided with Kaley and therefore with millions of children: Big Tech is harming kids on an industrial scale. For years, parents were told these harms were exaggerated, anecdotal, or simply the unavoidable cost of growing up online. Today, a jury affirmed what parents have long known: Meta and YouTube were designed to exploit young people, with devastating consequences. For the first time, the law aligns with common sense: social media companies no longer have a special exemption to harm children with impunity. Their shield is gone. They will be treated like any industry that knowingly harms children and lies about it. History will judge them as harshly as the tobacco industry. This bellwether case tested a new legal theory: the harm is not just what algorithms show children, but rather that these products were designed to foster addiction. The companies knew they were harming children by the millions—and did it anyway. They were negligent and dishonest. This outcome belongs first and foremost to the families, especially the many parents who, in the face of unimaginable loss, chose to speak out, demand accountability, and endure a painful legal process so that other children might be spared. This is just the beginning. Thousands of cases will follow, bringing Meta, Snap, TikTok, and YouTube to court. Much work remains in courts, legislatures, schools, and communities. But for now, let us all just savor the long-awaited arrival of justice. nytimes.com/2026/03/25/tec…

This crucial discussion with former Iran hostages was my last CBS News production. It’s been an honor to hang my hat at this esteemed US network for the last 7 years, and to learn from legends including @margbrennan, David Martin, & Mary Walsh. I started in this profession when constant change was already the norm, so I'm not suprised and have always believed in change & innovation. Our industry needs it. Though, as a mother of two little Americans, I am also watching a budding trend where the US news industry is letting go of journalists experienced in informing the American public about their nation’s foreign policy, who've borne witness to the impact it has abroad, and how it comes full circle upon us all. It's worrying, and I hope that I am mistaken. Pls follow the CBS Natsec team @margbrennan, @Olivia_Gazis, @JameLaporta, @ellee_watson @JenniferJJacobs to cut through the noise and stay informed. Keep watching @CBSNews.

For the at least four Americans currently being held by the Iranian regime, former Special Presidential Envoy for Hostage Affairs Roger Carstens said the Trump administration’s goal of bringing them home “might be off to the side or not necessarily coming up to fruition.” But, he adds: “I think it's our hope that if the president lists four war objectives, that the fifth objective is getting Americans out and maybe freeing all the other people that are kept in Evin Prison. I think I've seen a list of probably just under 20, not only Americans but Europeans, as well. And I'm hopeful that whether that's an announced objective, or whether that's off to the side, I’m hopeful that that’s on his list of things to do.”

This is the work that can’t be replicated by AI or pursued by a reporter with a Substack. It requires time - during which a reporter isn’t producing a lot of copy. Building trust with sources so you can tell sensitive stories, that’s a process that doesn’t scale.

"Nearly five years." Investigative journalism takes years and years. The investment is immense, and always worth it, and, in the era of "hot takes" and ephemeral "content," rigorously reported journalistic work is needed more than ever. We must keep supporting investigative journalism. From @mannyNYT, lead reporter of the blockbuster piece on Cesar Chavez ⤵️

UPDATE: i just shared this note with my colleagues: "To my incredible colleagues at CBS: I want to personally let you know that my work will soon no longer appear on CBS News. This is my decision, and I appreciate the bosses at CBS for understanding it. I will always value the opportunity I had to work alongside the talented and committed professionals here. I'm proud to have had the words 'CBS correspondent' next to my name - always will be. For the next phase of my career, I look forward to some independence and finding new spaces to share my work in line with my personal goals. I thank you all. The work will not stop, and I'll always be a call away"

Alysa Liu is resonating so much with women especially because her embracing joy, whimsy, artistry, authenticity and prioritizing having a healthy body and mind over aesthetic conformity and optimization blows a massive hole in much of the cultural messaging being pushed on us

Have been too shattered to write this but for the sake of clarity — I have also been laid off by the Post. I was one of the few journalists still working inside Russia. My last story went on the front page and featured rare testimonies from wounded soldiers criticizing the war.
