Mi hijo mayor camina con muletas desde los cuatro años. En el colegio, a la hora del comedor, había una regla no escrita por la cual el que estaba por detrás en la fila le llevaba su bandeja a la mesa. Cuando tenía ocho o nueve años, esto dejó de pasar. (Sigue)

@Livyatan_Mel @CarmelaNiembro La obligación??? No querido. Tienen la empatía, la deferencia, el detalle... Pero eso te lo tienen que enseñar en casa. Tú seguramente no sabes ni lo que es.

@CarmelaNiembro Por que unos niños tienen la obligacion de llevarle la bandeja a otro TODOS LOS DIAS? Durante un tiempo lo entiendo, pero todos los dias normal que se cansaran. La bandeja que se la pongan los trabajadores del comedor

Escuché estupefacta el relato. La profesora estaba tan enfadada que llamó a los padres de los cuatro niños para contárselo. “Y ahí fue cuando lo entendí todo. En lugar de ponerse de parte del débil, me contestaron que su hijo tenía derecho a que le cayera mal un niño y que si

Vaya por delante que él jamás me lo contó. De repente, nadie se ponía detrás de él con lo que algún adulto o alguien que se percatara de la situación, le echaba una mano. Lo que hizo fue decírselo a su tutora, una profesora joven y resuelta gracias a la que me enteré más tarde.

We’ve watched our daughter disappear in front of us. Sasha used to call us “Mummy” and “Daddy”, draw, speak, use the toilet, play with friends and ride a scooter. Now she can’t speak, play, or control her hands. 💔

I’m no use to Sasha if I don’t learn to fit my own mask. I’ve become better at catching burnout early. I’ll always remember the days when a social worker at the hospital had to tell me, “It’s not normal to lose your hearing from stress.” This journey has taken a real toll on my health. I work every day to restore what’s been lost. And over time, I’ve learnt to recognise the early cues, to listen to my body.

Burnout is real — and for me, it never starts in my mind. It begins in my body. My body feels it way before my head does. I think that’s survival mode. When Dave is down, I rise. When I’m down, he rises. Most of the time, we rise together. But when we don’t… it’s brutally hard.

We have the team. We have the data. We have the plan to get Sasha’s therapy ready for dosing. What we don’t have yet — are the funds to get it through the final safety studies and into her body, where it can start to give back what this disease has taken.
