Meet Isabel Bento from Portugal, Staff Scientist at EMBL Hamburg. She is a crystallographer and studies enzymes for greener biotechnology. Since her childhood, she’s been fascinated by violin. “In hands of a skilled player, it can sound even diabolic,” she said.

So tiny movements of single atoms can only be seen with crystallography. Our users are able to detect them thanks to the versatility of the EMBL Hamburg beamline P14 combined with the high quality of the samples they prepared.
