Ja: aber wie können wir das Machtpotential besser nutzen, um das europ Projekt vor Irrelevanz zu bewahren? Entweder die Entscheidungsmodalitäten ändern ( Mehrheitsentscheidungen) oder mit einer Kerneuropagruppe vorangehen. Eine mutige u große Initiative wichtig u überfällig!

Nein, @Volker_Beck, egal wie oft Sie verkaufen wollen, dass Netanyahus und Trumps Krieg gegen den Iran auch "unser Krieg" ist.
Es ist ganz einfach: die Tatsache, dass jemand Krieg gegen ein gegenüber Deutschland feindliches Regime führt, macht das nicht zu Deutschlands Krieg.

Statt dem „Nein“ wäre eine taktisch bessere EUnReaktion die Verknüpfung jeglicher Antwort mit Forderung nach US Verhängung des umfassenden Graham-Sanktionspakets gegen RUS.

@ischinger @HS_Akechi @Volker_Beck Natürlich haben wir strategische Interessen, @ischinger. Niemand sagt, wir sollten nur "nicht unser Krieg" rufen. Merz wie Pistorius legen nahe, daß es bei Hormuz eine Verhandlungslösung geben sollte. Ich finde das eine vernünftige Position. Sie nicht?

Eine wirklich sehr gute Einordnung der europäischen Lage von @K_Moessbauer im Pioneer Morning Briefing. Ich würde ergänzen, dass das was sie über den Populisten Orban sagt, auch der ein oder andere deutsche Politiker hören sollte.
Und ein in meinen Augen etwas optimistisches (oder naives?) Interview mit @ischinger
Wenn er sagt, jeder, der halbwegs mit der Sache vertraut ist, weiß, dass der Krieg in Iran bis zur Stunde kein NATO Thema war, denke ich an Grönland, an Zölle, an das Pariser Klimaabkommen, an die WHO und frage mich, ob man nicht zu blauäugig ist, wenn man der Trump-Adminstration in dieser Frage trauen kann.

The question of whether Europeans should or should not help in Hormuz is not about whether they should approve or disapprove of the war. It's about their own interest in re-opening the strait, whether that can be done with available assets, and the costs & risks of doing so.

Trump will auf einmal Hilfe der Partner, die er vorher nicht eingebunden hat. Die Frage ist, was Europa im Gegenzug für mehr Unterstützung von Trump einfordern könnte? Ein Kurswechsel in der Ukraine-Politik ist eine Option, wo wir bisher keine echten Einflussmöglichkeiten hatten.

@ulrichspeck @ischinger JCPOA involved China at least in a passive role. It was the P5 + Germany. You can't really improve on that for a framework, but unfortunately, the chance of recovering that is gone.

Without China, now zero chance to pressure Iran into an agreement. Times have changed since Obama pressed Tehran into an agreement - that would run out soon anyway. For Tehran, the goal was always to become the regional hegemon, negotiations only a way to limit costs. @ischinger

@ulrichspeck Disagree:If US had not walked away from the JCPOA then, and from negotiating now, a JCPOA 2 on ballistic missiles and Iran’s regional role in addition to enrichment could have emerged. Now we are at ground zero on all 3, coupled with regional instability. Not a happy picture.

@ulrichspeck Huge difference: in 2015, the US had the P 5, the EU and most of the Arab world alongside. Today the US has only Israel, with the EU and the other four members of the P5 either opposed or distant. Arab pride badly hurt, US tied down in the ME. Diplomatic success?So far, no.
