Chandrasekera brings something distinctly Sri Lankan to the genre [of speculative fiction]. When it comes to violence and power – two constitutive themes of modern fantasy – “The Saint of Bright Doors” is firmly rooted in the particular. @gautambhatia88: himalmag.com/contemporary-s…

#Arabic speakers! I need your help! In my newest book Hunlaf travels to Al-Andalus. As a result there are lots of Arabic names for people, places and things. My copy editor is asking about the use of what look like apostrophes and open speech marks in certain words. 1/?

Scratch that. I am very much over all superheroes, serious or not. But 1960s Batman is camp and thereby in a league of its own.

@jalalayn It’s a discussion that’s being had by my extended family members whom are concerned about their future generations many of my family and others oblivious to the facts. I read recently of a research done on Muslim immigration to South America the findings were very worrying.

Where I am currently living in Istanbul, there are Muslims that have recently arrived from all over the western world, Britain, France, US, Germany, to start a new life - when I ask them why they decided to move? They all respond “because of our children”.

I believe that if Islam had established itself as a traditional religion in Japan, the tea ceremony would have become the most important practice of Japanese Sufis.

One of the reasons I love and support the idea of Muslims writing speculative fiction with an Islamic bent is the hope that some will dream about futures where Islam matters instead of the present where the powers that be do their best to render Islam mute and moot. /1

What lesson to take from this I don’t know. But it’s an interesting quirk of history that people often forget.

Orientalist and anti-Muslim tropes portray Muslims as an innumerable eastern Horde. Muslims have internalized this portrayal that our numbers are a source of strength. But historically, the global Muslim population wasn’t particularly large, and Muslim lands pretty sparse.
