בן כהן צילם וכתב: ״בן שלום, אני אורית, אמא של רועי צ'אפל, מפקד עורב נחל, מפקד גזרת סופה, חולית וניר יצחק. נהרג ב-7/10 האם תהיה מוכן לפגוש אותי?״ ככה אורית סימסה לי השבוע. נפגשנו היום, ארבע שעות של עדות שמדי פעם היינו חייבים לקחת הפסקות ונשימות על מנת להמשיך. אני מניח פה את מה שאורית כתבה שנה לנפילת בנה רועי גיבור מדינת אזרחי ישראל. בדרך התקשרתי לבן שלי ובירכתי אותו בברכת שבת מחבקת ואוהבת. וכך כתבה - ״אני עייפה כל כך ילד. לא בטוחה שמסוגלת להמשיך ללכת את הדרך הזו כשאתה לא כאן. אז שתיתי איתך. אצלך, לצידך. לצד הגוף המת מתפורר שלך. מה נשאר ממנו אני לא בטוחה. אולי עצמות, קצת שערות? שיניים גם? ושתיתי. המון שתיתי. ולא הפסקתי. עד שקרסתי לאדמה לצידך. לא מספיק עמוק. רציתי להגיע עמוק אליך, אבל יש שם ריצוף, וטוף, ושיש, הרגשתי את החשופיות, המקקים שהלכו עלי, הנמלים שעקצו אותי בפנים ורציתי להיכנס עמוק לאדמה אליך. להיות איתך והגוף שלי קרס והמוח גם ובכיתי אותך לדעת. לא זוכרת איך ומתי, התקשרתי לליז. תוך דקות ידיים יציבות הרימו אותי לספסל. שטפו לי את הפנים, הובילו אותי למכונית. מישהו נהג. שם עלי יד. ליז מקלחת אותי. המים שוטפים ממני נמלים, חשופית, אדמה. אני במיטה. מביטה בך. אתה כל כך יפה בתמונה. ילד יפה. היית ילד כל כך יפה. וכעת אדמה, עקיצת נמלים נרדמתי כל אתמול עבר עלי בסהרוריות. כאילו האלכוהול התמקם לי בין הגבות. אחה"צ יצאתי אליך. התביישתי מעט. ממך. אבל אתה תמיד סלחת לי. גם בעליבותי. ניקיתי. הדלקתי נר חדש. לשבת. נישקתי. ויצאתי. המשכתי למצפור. הלכתי להשקות את העצים. חם כל כך. אני אוהבת אותך. תכף שנה. what the fuck וכל אלו שאחראים למותך עדיין במגדלי השן. מי במדים, מי בחליפות כולם, ילד היו אחד, שניים שהחליטו על עזיבה ועשו לעצמם טקסים. בראבק עשו לעצמם טקסים עם נאומים לא השפילו אף לא מבט. זוכרת לפני שני עשורים, אמרתי מילה לא במקום לתלמיד במקום העבודה. הבושה מילאה אותי, שנים נשאתי בושה ועדיין על אף ולמרות הסליחה, אכלתי בושה. ואלו, דמים על ידיהם רצחו משפחות, רצחו אותי קמים כל בוקר מחדש לנהל בערכיהם באמות המידה שלהם. אומרים לי - אבל הוא אדם ערכי מקצוען, מנוסה. זה מנהיג, זה מצביא מה נהייה מאיתנו? אני לא מבינה. לא מסוגלת להבין ערכים שכאלו. פעוט שגורם כאב לחבר בגן, אחר כך מרביץ, בוכה, בורח לו גם משהו שמעיד על סערת רגשות, אשמה. בכל זאת, יש שלבי התפתחות למוסר. וכאן? השם לא מרחם. אלו לא מפלצות. אלו בני אדם. אומרים לי - מלחמה. מלחמה כבר שנה. אני אומרת- ישאירו אותנו במלחמה עוד שנים. כך הם מעדיפים שאשפיל מבט נהייה כנועים, שבורים, מותשים, מיואשים מלחמה עושה כאלו אנשים. אנשים מיואשים לא משנים את הכללים. אנשים מיואשים בקושי קמים. לא יעזרו כאן מהפכות לא מהימין ולא מהשמאל. האנושות הפסידה בגדול. אני הפסדתי הכל״.
