@BBL @cricketcomau Looking forward to hearing about the investigation into the medical response where the tv audience watched trained paramedics stand around whilst two players lay prone on the outfield. One clearly in the fencing response.
English

Wishing all the best to Daniel Sams and Cameron Bancroft who collided in the outfield. Our thoughts are with them both.
Play has resumed at Perth Stadium. #BBL14

@FoxCricket @kayosports Could hear the crack across the stadium live.
English

A brutal collision between Daniel Sams and Cam Bancroft, which saw Sams carted off, has seen the Thunder's game with Perth halted.

@AlisonMitchell Their approach transcends critique. Flaws are readily apparent, but are dismissed as ‘not part of the mindset.’ To veto defensive strategies in test cricket isn’t laudable - it’s myopic. ‘Win some/lose some’ removes accountability & critique…which seems fine with everyone 🤷🏼♂️
English

Intrigued to hear Ben Stokes’ interview after this one, but can’t imagine there will be much introspection from the dressing room. Onto the next and a chance to win 3-2 #IndvEng

@sthalekar93 - apologies for the Twitter message, Lisa, but I couldn’t find a way to contact you directly. I’m a board member of the Lords Taverners WA & we’re hosting the Women’s Test Breakfast prior to the WACA test. Would love to get in touch if possible.
Best wishes
Karl.

@TheCricketerMag Incredible actions from TC. The umpire is the law, and if they tell you not to run on the wicket - you don’t. It was 100% intimidation, and to suggest otherwise is pure gaslighting. 4 matches is an exceptionally light reprimand under the circumstances.
English

Tom Curran will miss Sydney Sixers' next four matches after being found guilty of intimidating an umpire.

@michelappleton I thought it was a no ball when I first saw it live. Should probably have been reviewed (speaking as an AUS as well).
English

I’ve only seen the replay once, at full speed, so have no idea.
But if it had been called a no ball, Lockie would have come in needing five runs from two balls - the first of which would have been a free hit.
Michael Appleton@michelappleton
Wasn’t that a waist high full toss?

@beastieboy07 @LouisDBCameron Disagree with the OP here - both openers were dismissed by Woakes, who was the main beneficiary of the new characteristics of the replacement ball (along with Broad). Ali didn’t take a wicket until batter #5, and Ali benefited from the ball with notably more bounce…
English

This is such a pertinent point from @LouisDBCameron. While the changed ball did have a say to an extent on one particular phase of play, the story of #Ashes 2023 was both teams paying dearly for not making the most of strong positions in their first innings in matches they lost
Louis Cameron@LouisDBCameron
Unpopular opinion (at least in my hemisphere): Moeen Ali took a third of the final-day wickets including the bloke with the highest fourth-innings ave in the team (Head) and reckon he would have done that even if the ball was made in 1903. Aus lost the game in their first inns

@simonhancock_uk @wwos Not sure - just basing it on the interview with Dukes president (sic) in another published article about this incident.
English

@ItsKarlBrown @wwos I was assuming that the old balls in the box were old Surrey match balls that had been hit around the Oval for various numbers of overs. Maybe someone can correct me if I'm wrong.
English

@simonhancock_uk @wwos Dukes sends every tests venue new ones each season to knock in, etc. per the manufacturer. They are branded with the year, so should be very easy to see, if we still have access to the actual game ball…
English

@wwos If Surrey are expected to keep a box of a dozen used Dukes balls with various levels of wear and tear, it's not surprising that some are a few years old.
English

@KatyaWitney Noting that in this series it’s 4.36 across the two tests that he played in, as he mentioned in the quote.

@teddlyf @Artetatet @codecricketau @BenHorne8 I’m not replying anymore.
If you can’t see that this is not some common ball swap situation, and that there’s a genuine issue here that could (possibly) have intent behind it - then you’re not interested in exploring the issue - just judging with your blinkers on.
Cheers.
English

@ItsKarlBrown @Artetatet @codecricketau @BenHorne8 Aussies call us whingeing poms but the second they lose they find an excuse. I've been around long enough to see that happen enough times.
I'm not a fan of the new ball system just in general, but complaining about it just because you lost is typical of any sports fan
English

An investigation is set to be launched into the Ashes ball-swap drama, amid speculation the offending Dukes’ ball that cost Australia victory was five-years old.

@teddlyf @Artetatet @codecricketau @BenHorne8 It absolutely does.
If you know anything about cricket, and have been following for a long time, then you’ll appreciate that seam movement (significant with those 2018 Dukes) makes a massive difference.
Can (and possibly did) spark a collapse.
English

@ItsKarlBrown @Artetatet @codecricketau @BenHorne8 I mean of course it makes a difference which is why both sides were trying to get balls changed all series to try and get a harder one. It doesn't make you lose 7 wickets for 100 on that pitch though
English

@teddlyf @Artetatet @codecricketau @BenHorne8 Honestly, it comes across as if you refuse to even entertain it.
You’re stuck in the narrative that any AUS question = AUS whinging, which means you are closed to the possibility completely.
Is that a fair description?
English

@ItsKarlBrown @Artetatet @codecricketau @BenHorne8 'speculated' 😂. Have the umpires leaked the info or has a crying Aussie just made it up to suit the narrative?
English

@teddlyf @Artetatet @codecricketau @BenHorne8 Ted - we are talking about *this* ball. You have a set narrative that you’re locked into.
It’s the only ball in the entire series that’s speculated to be from the 2018 batch.
Ashes cricket is important enough to warrant an investigation.
Extremely serious if intentional.
English

@ItsKarlBrown @Artetatet @codecricketau @BenHorne8 And for the record, both sides had multiple ball changes during the season and both sides took wickets soon afterwards after receiving a harder ball. I don't remember Australia crying foul before they blew the series after letting one get into their heads
English

@teddlyf @Artetatet @codecricketau @BenHorne8 Spoken like a true ENG fan…and there’s nothing wrong with that :)
A more objective cricket fan wouldn’t accept that for one minute. The ball always makes a difference, and this one (if from 2018) makes a known difference based on empirical evidence.
No one wants match fixing.
English

@ItsKarlBrown @Artetatet @codecricketau @BenHorne8 Sort of ignores the fact that Australia got bowled out for for effectively under 200 on the last day on a flat pitch. The ball shouldn't have made a difference. Its an excuse game
English

@BoothCricket Question:
If it was indeed from 2018, and we then find out who provided the balls for selection, and why this was chosen ahead of four other more similar balls (based on footage) - what then?
Pretty serious issue, no?
You can perhaps see why it comes across as match-fixing.
English

@Artetatet @codecricketau @BenHorne8 Indeed.
I don’t think it’s poor sportsmanship or whinging at all to want to discover how this came about.
What were the circumstances that led up to it? Who provided the selection for the umpires?
A 5-year-old ball doesn’t suddenly appear in a pivotal moment like that…
English

@ItsKarlBrown @codecricketau @BenHorne8 It's crazy how many column lengths were spent trying to justify adding extra days to test matches when they can't even swap a ball with a similar one. They were more concerned about the ball swap than the batsman that just took a ball to the back of the head.
