Words are made up, languages change over time. Many dialects are different than yours but that doesn’t make them improper.

@Letters_ForAll @xwonde6 @espn @TheUFL Teams that gain more yards score more points. If you increase the scoring of a drive that stalls at the 40, the gap in scoring between higher and lower yardage teams will be smaller. I did not mean the gap would be gone, it’s a minor negative side effect.

@dikalo111 @official_ST_ @john_maconi @espn @TheUFL I think a simple solution would be allowing to attempt a 60 yarder from anywhere within 60 yards, if you are down 4 and in the redzone on 4th you can lineup at the 43 and kick a 60.
The rule may still reward mediocre offense too much but it would be worth a UFL trial for sure.

You can’t incentivize losing yards or penalize gaining yards or there will be issues.

Usually scoring a TD is the #1 priority but not always. Late in the game the clock can take priority (kneeling, running more to kill time, passing more to save it).
If a FG wins you the game that becomes the #1 priority.

It breaks the forward progression incentive of football and adds a “4 pt line” that it can be beneficial to stay behind.

I’m usually a rare supporter of “radical” rule changes (pitch clock, dynamic kickoff, etc.) but this is just a bad rule. You shouldn’t get more points for gaining less yards, and it creates an incentive to lose yards in some situations. Try moving field pos. on a miss instead.

@34GreshamRd @austin_2530 @espn @TheUFL If it leads to winning it is good coaching, and vice versa. In the situation I stated considering it’s 3rd and 20 you have a better chance of winning if you lose 25 yards.
We can find another way to reward great kicking that doesn’t flip the incentive to progress forwards.

@ItsSorceryy @austin_2530 @espn @TheUFL Most teams try to score TD not a FG. Plus a FG is not guaranteed. If you're playing for a FG in that situation you're probably a poorly coached team to begin with and deserve to lose
