@CarterEckl And one correction: The legendary Gorman-Liberty game in 2019 was not a state semifinal. It was a regional title game (the round before, basically). I have docked my pay and done 200 push-ups.

Solution for Nevada high school football coming in about 10 minutes on the @nevadaappeal Behind the Bench podcast. Truly a can't-miss episode.

@skolrays Right. Anything below Gonzaga — and Utah State? — is pure speculation (and wishful thinking), just like it will be for the future MW. Another take: The Big East, with far more tradition and resources, had to sweat to get three teams in this time. And the Faux-12 will get four?

@ItsTheDukester These takes crack me up. The PAC took half the contenders out of a conference that would get anywhere from 1-4 annually, and added a solid program but expects to get 4 in every year?! 😂 their conference schedule will be lower ranked than it’s been the last 4 years in the MW

Non-NCAA tournaments are great; all of them. I hope they are around forever. And they can do good things for programs prepared to seize the moment. The Pack's 2016 CBI is Exhibit A. And this NIT run has already turned a wet-firecracker fifth-place finish into something special.

@silverstategrep I'm wondering if they could have a bowl game or something? It's a strange situation, to be sure. And Nevada has terrible georgraphy for HS sports. If our population was more evenly spread, there would likely be a way to re-work some regions or whatever. Stay tuned, right? 😂

@ItsTheDukester No I’m not saying a North/South debate, but with only 2 schools left in 5A (Gorman & Faith) and 5 charter schools in 4A (SLAM, Sloan Canyon, Mater East, Cadence, and Losee) there wouldn’t need to be an open division.

No, it ACTUALLY benefits the dozens of schools and literally hundreds upon hundreds of athletes who will, for the first time in 20 years, have the chance to compete for regional and state titles on an even playing field. High school sports is not about the 1 percent.

Right. "Gorman" is convenient shorthand. The dominance is a legitimate problem, but if it was the ONLY problem? There might be a way out. But our friends in the South are clearly DONE with this. Alignments that shift constantly, busted playoffs, lawsuits ... they are over it.
Carter Eckl@CarterEckl

There are so many layers to get to this point. Gorman’s dominance, the public/private debate, a continually changing football alignment, the latest alignment getting overturned (and by a split vote), lawsuit threats. Years of obvious frustration are at a full boil

@silverstategrep 1. No evidence of that. 2. Do you think the South is the only group that can protest? 3. But beyond all that ... so what? Not my problem. I don't work at the NIAA. If you're looking for a North-South debate, I'm not your guy. I want what's best for ALL kids in ALL sports.

@ItsTheDukester Duke you do realize this most likely means Northern schools will most likely have to play against Gorman for a state title if there isn’t any other competition to field two divisions right?

Big second half for the Pack, which gets back into the postseason W column. Nevada forces 15 turnovers to make the difference in a game where both teams generally shot well. Liberty up next, Saturday or Sunday.

"It’s really unprecedented. That should tell you how serious this is ... it’s hard to get 30 people to agree on anything." Clark County schools have had enough. Shots fired at Gorman, the NIAA, and (as always) the North: reviewjournal.com/nevada-preps/c…

This is big, on a number of levels. Most obviously: After years of rumblings on the subject, action is being taken. Second: We've got 30-ish schools saying, "We'd rather forgo playoffs and awards for two years than play on an uneven playing field." Terrible look for the NIAA.
Alex Wright@AlexWright1028

And here we go. NIAA officially announces that 5A/4A CCSD football programs have informed the NIAA that they will play as independents beginning this fall. CCSD schools inform NIAA of independent football status this fall lvrj.com/post/3726657 via @reviewjournal @nevadapreps
