@CarterEckl @ItsTheDukester Carter, listened to podcast and most likely the 5A region champion up north will most likely go up against Gorman, Faith Lutheran, or Losee. While 4A will most certainly contain a charter school in the championship. Great show!!

@silverstategrep @JoeArrigo_ You can have the greatest staff ever but you can only squeeze so much juice out of that orange when you have closed enrollment “jimmys and joes”

@silverstategrep @JoeArrigo_ What matters is the recognition by SNFCA that school pops matter except when it comes to forcing small pop Northern schools up to make South schools happy they have an opponent to play

@silverstategrep @JoeArrigo_ The South built protections in their proposal based on enrollment numbers and their protected level where you couldn’t be forced up from 4 a to 5 a was 2275 where all of Northern schools are below that number. How does that calculate?

@silverstategrep @JoeArrigo_ Instead of competitive balance you may actually get punished for your recent success however flighting it was

@coachlawrence44 @JoeArrigo_ The rubric is purely against instate competition and yes it is ment to fluctuate. Promotion and relegation was based purely on league standings, that was agreed on by both sides of the state.

@silverstategrep @JoeArrigo_ I am from the North & understand the concept perfectly well & disagree with the Ruberic formula for promotion relegation. It’s gives too much weight to recent success. You have a great year graduate the players then good chance you’re starting over. My team is a perfect example

@JoeArrigo_ @coachlawrence44 5A/4A was never about enrollment numbers, because the majority of schools in WCSD and CCSD are in 4A via enrollment. The rubric was used to determine the 5A/4A split. I don’t know where the north got the 5A/4A split was based off enrollment but that was never the case.

@JoeArrigo_ @coachlawrence44 I never understand why people from the north can’t seem to grasp that concept. The enrollment numbers are benchmarks set by the NIAA to divide schools into each division, rubric scores are used to determine your level of “competitive balance”. (Hence 5A/4A)

@coachlawrence44 @JoeArrigo_ Yet the rubric scores and NIAA enrollment benchmarks would have put those schools in the top division playing against the likes of Liberty, Arbor View, or Gorman. Yet the North didn’t want to play them.

@JoeArrigo_ So we can agree then the north south is different? In the North 5A this last year we had 6 schools and 6 in the 4A. In the 5A we had my public school with 1280 students no open enrollment and the rest larger up to Spanish Springs around 2200.

@coachlawrence44 @JoeArrigo_ But the divisions and levels were made according to the numbers the NIAA deemed were the benchmarks for the said divisions. The rubric deemed your “level” of play and if I’m not mistaking, 3-4 northern schools were in the Top 10.

@JoeArrigo_ If we can agree they are different and in a number of areas the programs are built by different rules and specs, would you not agree Divisions and levels are created for a reason? There are a number of reasons but the one we hear all of the time is for “competitive balance”

@CoachJustinBro @DuncantelLegend Giving students a shot at playing other students who are at your caliber or better. Also helps create dialogue for the future where the aspirations to play in a state championship is actually feasible.

@DuncantelLegend You don’t see it because it doesn’t apply to you rn. Play a full schedule of 5A teams n your thoughts will change. Gorman is a national powerhouse who didn’t let the defending champs CIF-SS score a single point. What shot does a public school have against a team of that caliber.

Public schools weren’t going to win a state title in football regardless. So what’s the difference 😂. The benefit is playing other programs with the same rules/enrollment opportunities. Even playing field. Schedule top opponents at your own leisure!

@bigleaguebilly1 @CarterEckl @silverstategrep This definitely doesn't benefit public schools in the short-term. They no longer get to play for recognized state titles. They can agree to play a season and have a "champion", but that school won't be recognized by the state. Things could change, but right now it's not good

@silverstategrep I'm not sure of the specific details, but I was just told this by multiple sources with direct knowledge of what is happening. Needless to say, they think it isn't a good look considering how the HRM system played out after the regular season last year.

In my statement, and in that coaches statement, where did competing with Gorman come out of either of our mouths? Playing for a state title, either at the 5 or the 4A level. Keep trying to get my attention because you always have something to say when I have a tweet about this subject

@silverstategrep Losee did indeed play them. Bloodbath to say the least. I don’t recall the slam game. Which year was that?

@silverstategrep I'm wondering if they could have a bowl game or something? It's a strange situation, to be sure. And Nevada has terrible georgraphy for HS sports. If our population was more evenly spread, there would likely be a way to re-work some regions or whatever. Stay tuned, right? 😂

No, it ACTUALLY benefits the dozens of schools and literally hundreds upon hundreds of athletes who will, for the first time in 20 years, have the chance to compete for regional and state titles on an even playing field. High school sports is not about the 1 percent.
