My mom wouldn't let me read any of the books growing up. Part of that might have been because she aspired to spend as little money on me as possible so she would have drug money. I've been candid about my mom's drug use and being raised by a drug addict who refused to seek treatment.

Like I just hilariously realized because @crucifix knew me then that she knew my mother wouldn't allow me to read the Harry Potter books (she watched the movies herself though, especially when I became a young adult... I was just never allowed to read the books myself growing up).
