Clarification about "Borderline Personality Disorder." You'll appreciate this. The term "borderline" is confusing. Many people think it means "personality disorder lite," or "almost, but not severe enough to be a full personality disorder." That's wrong. It is fully a severe personality disorder, but yes, the name is not optimal. So what is the "borderline"? It means a person is on the line between neurosis (high negative emotions) and psychosis (actual disconnection from reality). Those with Borderline personality ride the line back and forth between being so emotionally distorted they can't get along, and going all the way over the line into psychosis. Psychosis does not mean "hallucinations." That's ONE kind of psychosis, but not the only kind. In borderlines, they don't usually hallucinate. Instead, they get wrapped up in delusions of persecution, fantasies that their children and loved ones are plotting to hurt them, etc.
