This is stupid and historically irrelevant, ignoring over 200 years of political, social, and ideological change in the US. The Democratic party didn’t even exist in 1776, and was not founded until 1828. Its precursor, the Democratic-Republican Party did not emerge until around 1792. So in 1776, there were no organized political parties. Back then, the founders were generally opposed to the factionalism that parties represent. While it is true that Southern states negotiated to count enslaved people as 3/5 of a person for congressional representation (increasing their power w/o allowing them to vote), this was a regional and pro-slavery factional effort, not a Democratic party platform. Implying that the Democrats of 1776 are the same as the Democrats of 2026 is absurd. The pro-slavery faction of the 19th century was composed of Southern Democrats, while the modern Democratic Party is the product of a realignment that began under the New Deal in the 1930s and solidified in the 1960s with the support of civil rights legislation. Claiming that Democrats use illegal aliens to increase electoral power, misrepresents the function of the US Census. The Constitution requires a count of all persons, not just citizens, for the apportionment of House seats (to ensure all people living in a district are represented). The impact of undocumented immigrants on the reapportionment of House seats is minimal, moving 0 to 1 seat, not causing a significant shift in the balance of power anyway. Immigration policies, including those affecting non citizens, have been debated, enacted, and proposed by both Democratic and Republican administrations in a bipartisan way. Pretty much, the Democratic Party has evolved from a conservative, pro-slavery, states rights party in the 1800s to a liberal, pro civil rights, federal interventionist party in the 20th and 21st centuries.
