@CoachBollin @RutgersAltRoute I feel, that it would be beneficial for all teachers, at this point to be able to attend workshops to ensure digital literacy. Some of us who are more mature in age, may really struggle with it. It’s a new language, literally!

@RutgersAltRoute The challenges that I have encountered, when relating to students’ use of AI, is that 1/4 of my students have used it to write their papers, some using it to write the entire piece. I often wonder if this is too much power for them to handle at this stage.

@RutgersAltRoute A5#TeacherEd#EdTech A teacher might specify list all the things that the student was successful in achieving, within a given task, and then add something like, “Areas for improvement…”. It helps, again, to be specific, and to model an example of what you mean.

@RutgersAltRoute A3#TeacherEd#EdTech This depends on the specific Learning difficulty. A student may need more time. They may need access to a translation oof a particular text, due to a language barrier. I might need to make concessions for a student with autism.

@RutgersAltRoute A4#TeacherEd#EdTech I use emails to reach out to parents and caregivers, and, at times, the telephone. I have found that talks with parents have had the greatest impact on turning a student’s grades around, particularly when connected to behavioral issues.

@RutgersAltRoute At the moment, I use PowerPoint presentations, and my students also use them to create content. I use YouTube videos, we also have a culture of using Membean, which is a platform where students engage in individualized learning goals and quizzes, for acquiring vocabulary.

@RutgersAltRoute Q10: my current assignment practice actually does allow for multiple opportunities for skill mastery. There was one assignment I set, that on reflection, I felt carried too much weight, but I found ways to mitigate that, and since it seems to be working well.

@RutgersAltRoute Q9: To foster a growth mindset in students, teachers can ask: “What mistakes did you make, and what did you learn from them”? They could also ask, “How did you arrive at that answer?”

@RutgersAltRoute I aim to use the intentionally introduce new material with the idea of learning, and particularly with difficult material, the idea of “stretching” ourselves and persevering, welcoming and investigating mistakes, for learning.

@RutgersAltRoute I see more clearly the need to explicitly frame new material in a way that welcomes, and expects mistakes, as this reduces student anxiety and allows the students to “get to the deeper business of learning”, as one professor aptly puts it.

@chrisbkitchen @RutgersAltRoute Yes, I try to do this and have found it effective - modeling and breaking it down into steps prevents my students from getting overwhelmed with unfamiliar tasks. I like what you say, Chris, about using the language of “learning”. Going forward, I will do this intentionally.

@RutgersAltRoute Q3: When introducing new tasks, I can frame them as “we’re learning,” break steps down, model first, and normalize mistakes so students feel safe trying and sticking with it. #TeacherEd #GrowthMindset
