The leadership in Iran is out among the people, taking selfies. Assassinating their Pope and 100+ of their daughters turns out to have been a bad opening move. That school was where the leaders' children were. The US and Isfake double tapped it. There will be no regime change.

The “Word of God” in John isn’t the Bible. That’s impossible. There was no New Testament canon yet. No bound Bibles. No 66 book King James Bible. John is describing Jesus Christ, not a book.

@EthanWayne2001 It's the connection to St. John Maximovitch. St. John's book on the Theotokos is weighty and convincing, for instance, and we're all reading it in Fr. Rose's translation. His own books though... for each of them I can find someone who wrote the same thing but better. Nostalgia?

I’ve often wanted to have a conversation with people who venerate Seraphim Rose, because, I admit, I don’t really understand what people find so exceptional about him. People speak about him with such fondness, like many of my friends have about beloved saints like Paisios of Athos. But I don’t really “get it”. With most saints, I can sort of understand why people love them so much. But with Rose, I don’t.

@DianeKamer @poperespecter1 I agree with you. St. Augustine is a singular mind 🙏 It remains true that reading him uncritically and nearly exclusively for a thousand years was a disaster for the Latin dogmatic tradition (which he basically started in the first place).

MUNICH — According to UOJ sources, the Council of Bishops of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia (ROCOR) has canonized Hieromonk Seraphim Rose as a saint. This was first reported by UOJ-Germany. The decision was reportedly made during Monday's deliberations by the sobor and remains unofficial until a statement is issued by ROCOR. Tentatively, Fr. Seraphim is the first U.S.-born saint of ROCOR and the first American convert to be numbered among the saints.

@poperespecter1 It's unfortunate, I agree. Not because of the gay stuff; I don't know anything about that. But because he's a figure like St. Augustine; wrote a lot, it's not all good, and with an outsized influence. This was resisted for a long time for good reason.
