People will show you this graph and say "Wharton is as good of a defender as Gravenberch, and way better on the ball" And they'd be wrong. Well, half wrong. He is better on the ball with his passing. The problem with statistics is people who don't understand them also have access to them. Duel % is their win rate, not how often they engage in them, or actively defend. A player could engage in 2 duels per game win 1 some games and 2 other, but have a win % of 70%... Whereas another player could have 10 duels per game and win 6 of them. If you just looked at the percentage, clearly the 70% "looks" better. Similarly, Crystal Palace average 46% possession, Liverpool average 60% possession. The fact Wharton has Similar possession won numbers with significantly less possession as Gravenberch is alarming to say the least for a supposed "better defender". So, again, Wharton is not a good defender and Palace deploy a system to cover those deficiencies and allow him to use him on ball ability to influence games. Move him to a high possession, high line press side and he gets exposed. #LFC

Traces of the Mane explosiveness here but the biggest compliment I can make to Diomande is every time I see him, he showcases bits of others too. I’ve just spent 50 mins on the stepper watching Wharton comps. He’s basically the Trent in midfield. There is no doubt he’ll benefit the attackers but Florian Wirtz could be the biggest beneficiary. A hard working RW is a must but Wirtz receiving in the right areas is key. #LFC
