The $46 billion vape industry hired flavor chemists to solve a specific problem: nicotine tastes bitter. The human tongue has T2R receptors that detect nicotine and trigger aversion. So the industry reverse-engineered the problem. They loaded e-liquids with fruity aromatic compounds like farnesol, farnesene, and ethyl butyrate that suppress the bitterness signal and activate sweetness perception through the orbitofrontal cortex instead. Turns out they built something more powerful than a nicotine delivery system. A 2023 study in the Journal of Neuroscience found that green apple vape flavorants, with zero nicotine present, independently fire dopamine neurons in the ventral tegmental area and increase dopamine release in the nucleus accumbens. The same reward circuitry that nicotine hijacks. The flavor chemicals alone were producing reward-seeking behavior in mice. A separate study found strawberry additives significantly increased nicotine vapor sampling, meaning the fruit smell made subjects inhale more of the drug without any conscious decision to do so. 95% of vape users choose flavored products. The industry has always framed this as “consumer preference.” The neuroscience says the flavors are pharmacologically active compounds that directly alter brain reward circuits and increase drug intake. Now look at what those compounds do once the device gets tossed. The UK was discarding 5 million disposable vapes per week before the ban. The aromatic volatiles don’t stop broadcasting once the device is empty. Orthonasal olfaction, the same pathway that makes you smell a strawberry from across a room, works identically in mammals. A squirrel’s olfactory system processes fruity volatiles through the same receptor families humans use. The signal reads as food. Nobody saw squirrels gnawing on Marlboro butts for 60 years. Vapes show up and suddenly there’s footage from London, Philadelphia, and Wales. The animals are chewing on lithium batteries wrapped in candy-scented plastic because the flavor engineering worked exactly as designed on a nervous system it was never tested on. The lithium in those discarded vapes equals 5,000 electric vehicle batteries per year. Oxford researchers found the cells inside can cycle 450+ times, but the product is built to be used once and thrown in a park. A squirrel holding a blueberry vape on a Brixton fence is the most honest product review the flavor chemists have ever received.

Fantastic post and very well explained. "Charts (price action, market structure, volume, order flow, etc.) represent the only objective, real-time truth available to us. They are the unfiltered aggregate of every single buy and sell decision made across the entire market." Must read 👇
TraderJB@TraderJBx

For those learning: You've probably heard experienced traders/investors repeat the mantra: "Focus on the charts, not the narratives". But do you truly understand why this advice exists? More importantly, do you grasp the mechanics behind charts versus narratives—and why, despite this widely repeated wisdom, 90% still believe narratives are what actually drive price? Charts (price action, market structure, volume, order flow, etc.) represent the only objective, real-time truth available to us. They are the unfiltered aggregate of every single buy and sell decision made across the entire market. Price is the naked reality. Narratives—whether news headlines, earnings reports, tweets, geopolitical events, analyst opinions, or crowd beliefs—are merely human interpretations layered on top of that reality. They are stories we tell ourselves to explain what the price is already doing. Very often, you'll spot a clean technical setup on the chart that strongly suggests the next high-probability move—yet nothing "happens" until a narrative appears to catalyze it. When price then explodes, the crowd immediately shouts: "It was the rumor!", "It was the news!", "It was Elon’s tweet!". This is a classic mistake: confusing the catalyst with the cause. In reality, the chart was already showing the underlying supply/demand imbalance and directional bias. The narrative simply served as the trigger that synchronized the broader market, decreased uncertainty, and brought in the remaining participants. Without that pre-existing technical foundation, the exact same narrative usually falls completely flat (we see this constantly: "bullish" news gets ignored or even sold into, and "bearish" news gets bought aggressively). The narrative is only useful as secondary context to understand the timing of the trigger and provide clues about potential exits or reversals in sentiment. But when forced to choose one primary guide for direction and timing, always choose the chart. Narratives can deceive, mislead, and whipsaw you—price never lies (though we frequently misread it). The people who insist "it was the narrative that moved the price" are typically the same ones buying near the top and selling near the bottom. Those who read the chart first and treat the narrative only as confirmation or context are the ones who consistently survive over the long term. Keep it simple: Price is cause and narrative is story. Master the cause.

The new gen of trenchers will NEVER know what it felt like to watch a transaction fail on Uniswap in 2021. You spot a coin at 200K mcap, You KNOW this is going to 10M minimum, You hit swap, the little circle starts spinning, and spinning.. and spinning.. Your whole body is shaking, you can't breathe, you're refreshing etherscan every 2 seconds like a fking gambler.. Then BOOM -> red text. TRANSACTION FAILED. Gas too low and you paid $200 in fees(!!) You scramble to resubmit, hands trembling, cranking gas to $600 for a $40 buy because you're DESPERATE, Fails AGAIN. By the time it finally goes through on the fourth attempt you've spent $1200 in gas fees and bought the exact top of a coin that's already retracing. These axiom kids sniping coins in 0.2 seconds don't know SH!T about real suffering. We were forged in the fires of failed Uniswap transactions and they have the audacity to call themselves "OG." Funny stuff

@KarateCombat We need an announcement of some sort that details where the Karate Combat ecosystem is headed. Most importantly - THE APP. Communication or some sort of "plan" for what is to come of it all would give your supporters peace of mind. Anybody in the Hedera ecosystem have a clue?
